Useful plants for the aquarium

Which plants for the aquarium choose a beginner

Every aquarist wants his home aquarium to be a real decoration in the room. To create the correct biological balance inside a closed reservoir, we need special instruments, decorations and plants. Which aquarium plants are suitable for beginner aquarists?

Popular plant species among beginners

The most popular and unpretentious plant for an aquarium is Javanese moss. Outwardly, it resembles ornate, tangled green threads. Moss tolerates shade and bright light; it is easy to grow. It does not need to be planted in the ground, because there is no root system. Java moss can grow on the scenery, even independently attached to them. It does not bloom, but reproduces by spores. You can also plant moss in a different way - by separating a fragment of a plant, and transplanting it to another area (on the ground, snags, stones). To prevent the current from moving it, Javanese moss can be secured to the surface with a fishing line or synthetic thread.

A popular plant species among beginners is the Thai fern. It does not have a root system, it does not need to be planted in the soil. But thanks to the rhizoids, it is easily fixed on the solid surfaces of the aquarium. With it, you can create unsurpassed aquascape compositions.

Admire the thick Thai fern.

Good plants for beginners - elodey. Elodea of 4 genera are on sale: Egeria, Lagarosifon, Hydrilla, and, actually, Elodea. In an aquarium, elodeas create lush green thickets in which fish and their fry can hide. These plants were imported from America, and well adapted to our latitudes.

Another useful plant for the aquarium - rogolotniki. They are known to all - grow in freshwater bodies of our latitudes. The stem is thin, harsh to the touch, whorled leaves. Cormorants can live submerged, and bloom under water. There are no rhizoids, therefore it is not necessary to plant in the ground. Can be mounted on the decorations of the aquarium, at its walls.

Plants nayas, or naiads - nayas Guadalupe and nayas Indian. A great choice for beginners aquarists. Grow only under water. Characterized by a dark green shade of leaf plates, small stalks thin and branching, the leaves are covered with small spikes. Nayas bloom, but in conditions of captivity, this rarely happens. It is recommended to contain in water hard or medium hardness. In soft water, nayas literally dissolve. The root system is powerful. You can plant in the ground, and over time you will see how the openwork bush was formed. Nayas can develop if it is let through the water, and not planted in the soil.

Beautiful plant species for beginners

Peristuphrium, or myriofillum - is a beautiful plant for the aquarium, which has a graceful and thin stems. Leaves are dark green in color, pinnate. The roots are thin, thread-like, you need to plant a perististeum in fine sand. On the new stretch of soil adapts quickly, and grows well.

Hygrophiles are beautiful and famous aquarium plants. All species have distinctive morphological characteristics. About 10 varieties and their forms are found on sale. Hygrophils - marsh plants that can grow above the surface of the water, and grow further in the air. The leaves are located opposite each other, in pairs.

Anubiasas are famous aquarium plants of the genus Anubias of the same name. Thanks to a strong root system and tough leaves, they are suitable for aquariums where digging and herbivorous fish live. The stem is creeping, hard leaves of a dark green color are moving away from it, petioles are long. On the basis of the leaf plates can be cuts, the tips of the leaves are pointed. Anubias grow slowly, but are hardy, can live in low light. They are expensive. Anubiases should be planted in such a way that their roots are tightly immersed in the soil, and the stem is located above it. The root system of Anubias allows you to fasten them to the stone, snag. Even in this form, they grow well.

See how to seat anubias nana.

Crinum Thai is a hardy seedling that, thanks to a bulb, can tolerate a wide range of conditions, absorbing the maximum amount of nutrients. Crinum unpretentious to the lighting and composition of the aquatic environment. Leaf color is light green, their structure is soft, belt-like, delicate, strong and elastic. Crinum Thai can be trimmed, tied into knots, they do not damage aquarium fish. Reproduction - vegetative, due to the daughter bulbs, which are formed at the base of the parent. May bloom: an umbrella with white flowers can rise above the surface of the water, the peduncle is durable. Only large plants thrive in captivity, with bulbs the diameter of a human fist. Crinum should be planted in the soil of the soil, or in pots of soil, not burying the bulb itself.

Cryptocoryne - stiff-leaved aquatic plants. There are many species that are popular in aquarism. Can grow in submerged, semi-submerged or above ground. Usually a bush consists of 5-15 leaves. The leaves may be lanceolate or ovoid, grow on the petioles. Leaf color - from green to brownish. The inflorescence forms a tube, inside which there is a short ear. Light in the content of the types of cryptocoryne apoponogotonolistnye and cryptocoryne related.

Necessary to create a harmonious aquascape are floating plant species. They can scatter on the surface of the water in the likeness of small beads (like wolfia, or a blooming hyacinth), or spread their wai (fern leaves) like the Indian ceratopopteris. Floating plants do not need to be planted in the ground, but for them the composition of water is important, from which they will receive useful substances. They also need safe overhead lighting so that the space between the lamp and the leaves is at a certain distance. Leaves can create diffused light inside the aquarium, or partial shade. The root system is poorly developed or absent.

Aquarium plants for beginners

Does the aquarium need natural vegetation? How difficult is it to create conditions for it? Are there any aquarium plants that even the inexperienced can grow? Let's try to give answers to all these questions.

But let's start with one more thing: why it is not so often to see live plants in aquariums, especially in simple amateur, family artificial reservoirs, whose owners do not want to shovel special literature and hang around for hours on thematic forums in search of tips and recipes, but just want to have home a few fish for the soul? As a rule, they initially try to plant some twigs and weed in their jar (usually chosen only for their beauty), but they quickly grow over with incomprehensible fluff, or their leaves fall, or for some reason they begin to darken and rot at the root. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts, a certain amount of plastic bushes are bought, and the home water body loses its most important element.

The value of green for aquarium

There are many benefits of living vegetation, but two main groups of functions can be distinguished:

  • impact on the hydrochemical parameters of the aquatic environment - nitrogen compounds are consumed from water, they are saturated with oxygen, the twigs and leaves serve as a refuge for the biofilter bacteria;
  • creating a favorable environment for fish and other animals - an additive to food, the formation of shelters for adults and young fish, the substrate for spawning.

There is also an aesthetic function. But let's be fair: this is a matter of taste. Some people like natural landscapes, while others like urban landscapes and lunar ones, and with the help of artificial elements, an aquarium can also be made very interesting.

Perhaps the only type of aquariums where it is objectively practically impossible to maintain living plants is tanks with very large fish, such as, for example, adult pterigoplichts, astronotuses and the like. They destroy any young growth completely mercilessly and with a speed that excludes the possibility of its recovery, moreover, in such aquariums a very strong flow is created for the implementation of the required level of water purification, which the plants simply cannot transfer. And even in such cases, it is difficult to do without natural greenery; it is simply carried out outside, equipping plant filters.

So, without the plants in the aquarium is bad and difficult. So, we need to create conditions under which they can live in our home reservoir.

What do plants need for life?

In general, not so much:

  • shine;
  • carbon dioxide;
  • macro- and microelements;
  • relevant water characteristics: temperature, acidity and hardness.

Only in the presence of all these elements in the right amount of grass and bushes will live, grow, decorate the aquarium and improve its ecology. However, the fact is that for some species it is very easy to create the necessary set of conditions, and for others, without having special equipment, skills, knowledge and experience, it is almost unreal. Therefore, inexperienced aquarists when developing the phytodesign of their jar should try to choose hardy, unpretentious plants.

What plants are considered undemanding?

Undemanding call plants that:

  • there is enough standard lighting (that is, for them it is not necessary to retool the cover of the purchased aquarium, inserting additional lamps there);
  • no organized supply of carbon dioxide;
  • regular fertilizing is not required (they, as a rule, have enough nutrients from fish waste).

Some of these species can exist in a fairly wide range of water parameters.

Choose on the basis of conditions

Before you begin to select the vegetation for your pond, you need to know what conditions are created in it. The amount of light is measured first. To do this, take the power of the lamps in watts (if there are several, then the sum of power) and is divided by the volume of water. For example, in a standard 80-liter aquarium there are 2 fluorescent lamps of 18 W each, which means the illumination will be 0.45 W per liter. It is quite sufficient for undemanding types, if the lamps are new, the spectrum is chosen correctly, and the height of the aquarium does not exceed 40-45 cm. For incandescent lamps, power should be about three times higher, and less for LEDs, but lamps of these types are used in aquarium lighting less often. beginners are not recommended.

Next, you need to evaluate the values of acidity and hardness, this can be done only using special tests. Now they are available in many pet stores in large cities and are not particularly expensive. Residents of small towns and villages, where such delights can not be found, we can recommend to order them in online stores or ask borrowed from experienced aquarists, having become acquainted with them on the forum.

It should be noted that most plants do not like hard water (with an indicator of total hardness gH above 8 ° and temporary carbonate hardness kH above 6 °). If the indicators of your tap water exceed this indicator, then it is necessary either to select the appropriate types of plants (and there are not so many of them), or to lower the hardness - this is done by adding reverse osmosis or distilled water. If you can not get it, then use boiled water without sediment. Another option: check the rigidity of various types of bottled water and try to find among them soft.

Based on the results, the selection of plants begins.

Plant types for beginners

Java moss

Generally recognized endurance champion among aquarium vegetation is considered Javanese moss. It endures low light, a wide range of pH and acidity, as well as temperature. It can grow in water and on the surface, it can be fixed on various underwater objects using fishing line. True, in an aquarium with insufficient light, Javanese moss is not recommended to be planted at the bottom in the form of ground cover (lawn grass), since there will be little light penetrated through the water column even for this unpretentious handsome. What is detrimental to a Javanese is frankly dirty water, when particles of organic matter settle on its small leaves, covering them with a solid coating and depriving them of the possibility of respiration and photosynthesis.

Pygmy Anubias

In my opinion, the second place among the most undemanding plants that grow well in beginners is dwarf Anubias. He prefers moderate lighting, is almost indifferent to pH and gH values, and his dense leaves are not damaged by fish and snails. Anubias can be added to the frame, it turns out very nicely. Its disadvantage is slow growth, because of which it cannot actively influence aquarium hydrochemistry.

Third place, perhaps worth giving rogolistniku. This plant has always been the favorite of young naturalists. It has no roots, but the stems can be stuck in the ground, forming cute bushes, like fir branches. It grows quickly, and with its help you can easily build in the aquarium lush and dense undergrowth at the back wall. Feels better in moderately hard water (in a soft stem splits into parts) with a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction. Illumination is needed quite good, from 0.3 W to L, a little more is better.

Even out of these three plants, thanks to their external dissimilarity, it is already quite possible to create a beautiful underwater landscape in their aquarium. And how many more species are quite affordable for beginners! We just need to make sure that they are suitable water parameters in their future home.

What else can you advise?

Floating on the water surface wolfia, riccia, duckweed are an excellent vitamin-rich fertilizer for fish, as well as shelter and canteen for fry of many species, but their emerald beauty can only be appreciated in aquariums open from above.

Plants that do not require rooting: elodea and their numerous relatives, sold under the same name, forming the nayad (nyas) lacy clouds, white-headed hydrokotyla with round bright green leaves. They drift in the water column, getting the necessary minerals from it, but they, like the above-mentioned romanthorn, can be pressed to the bottom if desired, forming bushes and thickets in the background and in the corners of the aquarium.

Rooting plants need nutrient soil, sand or fine gravel. If the aquarium is new and the ground is not silted, you can add fertilizer to it. This group of vegetation includes luxurious karomba Caroline, various types of hygrophilous with thin willow, openwork or patterned leaves, elegant pink rotala, thin spiral-shaped wallisneria. Some types of Echinodorus (for example, Amazonian) and cryptocoryne (aponogetonicolist) are also quite hardy and, with some zeal, are quite capable of beginners. Another beautiful and picky plant from this group is the Indian water fern - a rare handsome, absolutely, however, not tolerating hard and alkaline water.

How many plants should be and how to arrange them?

In the new aquarium does not need to immediately plant too much greenery. If simple plants are chosen and placed in a suitable environment, they will quickly grow. The distance between the bushes when planting should be 8-10 cm, the intervals will soon fill themselves. According to the general rules, high and lush vegetation is located at the back and side walls, low - in the foreground, medium bushes - in the center or closer to the corners. You can bind to the bark and stones, and then add java moss and dwarf anubias. There must be enough space in the aquarium for free swimming of fish!

Water garden care

If you plant the above-mentioned undemanding species that suit the parameters of your aquarium, you will hardly need to care for them. It will be necessary only regularly - once a week - to partially replace the water, cut the strongly grown branches and stems (in many species, you can root them again), remove parts of the shoots heavily damaged by fish or overgrown with algae, and ensure that the lamps change in time. . Once a month you can apply fertilizer in the form of tablets. And all will be well!

As you can see, aquarium plant growing is not such a complex science, and, in any case, the benefits of living green thickets fully justify the time and effort spent on caring for them.

Who benefits from the aquarium?

Every aquarist, sooner or later, but such a question arises.
First, we acquire unpretentious fish, simple in content. Gradually interested in more complex fish, more interesting and rare. Often, choose the fish for the beauty of color, shape, behavior.

Much has been written about these fish, practically, each aquarist has representatives of these species. Their use has long been tested and proven!

Seaweed shrimp

These wonderful creatures have recently become increasingly popular with aquarists. Our members of the forum, also appreciated the contribution of shrimp to the fight for the purity of the aquarium. In confirmation of this, a number of articles on shrimp appeared on our website.
The best fighter with nitchatka - Amano's shrimp

Algae Snails and orderlies

Snail helena. Predatory snail-eating snail.
Thunderstorm of all snails !!!

Next, I would like to elaborate on some snails.

Snail Neritina "Zebra" "Neritina natalensis sp" Zebra "
Some aquarists call it a tiger snail. They say that you can not find two snails with the same ornamentation of the shell. The homeland of these snails is hot Africa.
Content temperature - 25-27 degrees Celsius, PH of 7.
The cover of the aquarium should be tightly closed, because there are shoots of snails from the aquarium. For a short time this snail can live on land. Frequent attempts to leave the territory of the aquarium may indicate that the parameters of the water do not like the zebras. Zebras live in the aquarium for about 4-5 years, the size of the shell grows to 2-2.5 cm. In the aquarium, this snail does not reproduce.
Snail Neretina "Hedgehog" "Neritina juttingae"
The shell of this snail is decorated with spiral ribs and spikes. The size of the snail is 2-2.5 cm. Life expectancy in an aquarium is about 4 years. The optimum water temperature is 25-28 degrees, the pH is above 6.5.
Snail Neretina "Black Ear"
Conditions of detention, dimensions are similar to the previous instance, the lower threshold of temperature may be 22 degrees.
All neretina excellent cleaners aquariums, tirelessly clean stele, large-leaved plants, stones, snags and decor from algal fouling. Moreover, the aquarium plants do not damage at all. The only disadvantage of these snails - laying eggs on the glass aquarium.
Separately, I want to stay on a tiny snail -
Horned snail Neritina Clithon

These snails have a fairly wide range of habitats Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, China, Indonesia.
The photo shows that there are many options for coloring horned snails. A common feature - the presence of small horns on the shell of snails.
Life expectancy in an aquarium is up to 5 years. The snail is only 1-1.5 cm in size. But its capabilities deserve the love of aquarists: snails can crawl even into the most hard-to-reach places, clearing them to shine.
According to reviews of aquarists: the horned snail perfectly cleans diamond algae from Anubias leaves, glass, stones, decorations.
Water temperature should not be below 24 ° C, PH 7-8. Recommended for 100 liters of 10-15 stuff.
Like all neretina, horned snail does not breed in fresh water.
This video, in accelerated playback, shows how successfully a tiny horned snail copes with algae.
Porcelain Septaria (Septaria porcellana)

This extremely slow snail is also called the snail-turtle. It belongs to the family Neritidae.
Related Names Septaria porcellana - Green Turtle Snail, Cellana toreuma, Neritia Crepidularia, Bourbon Nerite.
Dimensions septaria forforova from 1.5 to 3 cm. Conditions: temperature 22-26, PH from 6 to 7.5. Filtration, aeration, water changes are required. The life of the aquarium in the presence of food (algal fouling) is about 2 years.
This remarkable snail was first discovered in 1758. The homeland of the snail is Indonesia and the Philippines.
In addition to its slowness, this snail is distinguished by its unusual form of carapace - a flat form. Snails are of different genders, but breed only in brackish water, therefore reproduction of porcelain Septaria in a fresh-water aquarium is not possible.
The snail firmly sticks its foot to the surfaces. In no case can not try to tear it off, thus you can snatch the snail's leg, which will lead to its death. Rotational movements, very carefully, you can try to peel the snail from the glass.
Like the previous types of neretin, Septarium porcelain, is also an aquarium nurse, and feeds on algal fouling. Excellent cleans the aquarium from algae, including from the Vietnamese. Does not damage plants. Gets along with all the peaceful fish and shrimps. Be careful with tetradonts, crayfish and other predators. I saw these snails in a cichlid. Feel great, and the glass already glistened with cleanliness.
- without algae the snail can die from hunger!
- the snail is not able to move on sandy soil!
Here are the rave reviews of the happy owners of these snails:
"This crumb in an hour has already collected two bunches of Vietnamese, and is clearly not going to stop," "Not able to move on the sand. Excellent creeps on the ground 1-2mm! Trying to climb on some plants with low and wide leaves. It easily climbs the glass on the side of the snags. Still - along the glass they are buried in the sand, where algae sit between the sand and the glass, and happily eats them out of it. waiting for aqua overgrown to impossibly excellent f ulitosa ".
Septaria also hangs its eggs on the scenery

And these mollusks very interested me !!
And it all started, here with this photo:
In two aquariums, water is poured from the same reservoir, but freshwater mussels, which are live filters, were placed in the second aquarium!
The same function they perform in aquariums.
Corbicula javan snail (Corbicula javanicus)
or sharovka yellow javanese or gold bivalve

The homeland of these mollusks: China, Indonesia, Vietnam and other Asian countries.
The optimal parameters for the content: temperature 15-30 ° C, PH 6.4-8.5, gH 10-24.
Not demanding on the quality of water in the aquarium, but there must be a good saturation of water with oxygen, which means aeration in the aquarium is obligatory. Water changes and filtration in the aquarium are also needed. Corbicula grow up to 3 cm in size. Life expectancy: 4 - 7 years
The recommended soil is sand of a fraction of 1–3 mm, and the corticles are almost completely buried in it. The soil layer should be at least 2-3 cm.
Corbicula are excellent helpers in the aquarium against cloudiness of the water, as they are filter feeders.
Passing water through them, they feed on the microorganisms contained in it.
According to different sources: Someone recommends keeping one tank per 100 liter aquarium. There is information about the content in 20 liters of two or even three individuals.
Such mollusks are recommended to be contained in spawners, where the need for clean water is especially important. Corbicula lets through 5 liters of aquarium water per hour!
In aquariums where these mollusks live, the water is always crystal clear, it does not bloom and does not have suspension and turbidity!
An interesting fact is that in aquariums where corbicules are kept, ichthyophorosis diseases do not occur, in the opinion of aquarists, corbicules retain ichthyophthirius cysts that swim in free flight.
You can keep a corbicul with all peaceful fish and shrimps.
Corbicula are hermaphroditic, reproduction problems in the aquarium there. Viviparous corbicula reproduce tiny snails, barely visible in the unaided eye. In an aquarium, newborn corbicules look like a muddy cloud, then sink to the bottom, where they continue to grow and develop.
If plants grow in your tank with a weak root system, then corbicules, plowing up the ground, can easily dig them up. thanks

useful video about the maintenance of aquarium plants

I propose to see beautiful photos of naturally decorated aquariums with plants.

Herbal Aquarium - a natural aquarium with live plants do it yourself with a useful photo video

AQUARIUM TRAVNIK natural aquarium with live plants, what you need to do, how to achieve this?

Well, the time has come to write the final article - a report on the work done!

Six months ago, I wondered if it was possible to create a beautiful aquarium - a “herbalist” at home, on my own? Such an aquarium that you could be proud of, admire and tirelessly admire! Such that he even slightly resemble the work of maestro Takashi Amano! What is needed for this? How much is it? Is it possible to save on equipment for such an aquarium? !!!

I once came across a video interview Takashi Amanowhere is he, answering the question: “What does a natural aquarium begin with?”, answered: “With an idea”. Perhaps this answer was the starting point for me.

My initial thoughts were like that.

Everything, both beginners and already experienced aquarists, are looking at work aquascapers, admire them and think: "How beautiful, great, I also want this!" Then, after the first impression, they say: "This is unreal, difficult, very expensive, and, probably, it is difficult to maintain such an aquarium ...".

Is the top of aquarium perfection - a dense "herbalist" - only professional and people who have the money for it? Why only a few create such aquarium beauty?

Probably because they do not know how to dream! Or these dreams, like many others, drown in the abyss of everyday life.
Amano is right! Any human accomplishments begin with an idea. Ideas that are so exciting for you that you can no longer eat and sleep well! The idea lives in you, any information you perceive only in the context of how it mates with your IDEA.

So I decided to prove, first of all, to myself, that I can dream that I will succeed and that at home there will be not just a bank with fishes, but a beautiful aquarium picture.
Here's what I got. Please watch this minifilm about my "herbal" aquarium, preferably in HD and with sound. I filmed a video on a digital camera, made a video and put music on it.

I really hope you enjoyed it!
Below, I will try to focus on those aspects and nuances of creating a "herbalist", which are either not mentioned or information about them is insufficient. I will try to give step-by-step instructions to create a dense aquarium with live aquarium plants.

But first I would like to talk about the emotional side of things. Recall and tell how it was. I was afraid to tell what was wrong, where I was freaking out, and where I was happy, like a baby. I think this is important, because it is our fears that prevent us from achieving the desired result.

So, until the creation of my "herbalist", I had a certain aquarium experience. However, I did not have the slightest idea about ground cover plants, about the subtle principles of building an aquarium composition. He did not know anything about the quantitative and qualitative components of such an aquarium: lighting, water parameters, fertilizers, filtration, etc. Therefore, the first thing I started with was to read articles, related forums, watch a thematic video on YouTube channel, master classes and webinars of aquascapers.
This process took me two weeks. After him there was a complete mess in my head !!! However, the entire array of this information allowed me to decide what exactly I want. It helped, on the whole, to imagine what my “herbalist” should be and what is needed for that.
It seems to me that it is at this stage that it is very important to present the final result. Visualization is a very powerful tool. This is the transitional stage of the materialization of your idea. In order to finally decide, in my free time on the beach, under the rays of the summer sun and to the sound of the surf, I sketched my future “herbalist”. There were many, but I stopped at this option.

In this virtual stage of understanding the idea and its rough visualization is over. The material side of the issue began to emerge. Prices frightened, there was a fear of making a mistake and not taking what was needed. But it was necessary to determine and act!
You will not believe, but my visualization worked, and ... there was free money that you could safely spend on your favorite hobby.

Taking into account the huge margins on goods in pet stores, a modest assortment and the incompetence of sellers, I decided to purchase most of the necessary goods on the Internet. So the external filter, soil for plants, chemistry, diffuser, drop checker, etc. were bought.
While the order was made and went to me by long postal roads, I began to thoroughly study the issue of lighting, because without proper and proper lighting, a good herbalist will not. I stopped at a combination of LED (hereinafter - LED) spotlights and T5 fluorescent lamps. My thoughts and conclusions were: "The best lighting for the" herbalist "is a combination of metal halide lamp (hereinafter - MG) with fluorescent T5. But, MG lamps heat very much and can be installed only on the rack, respectively, the aquarium should be open "But I want the aquarium with a lid. What should I do?"

I found out that LED spotlights are no less effective than MGs, but they heat much less. It was decided to take and install them. But the question is, which ones to take? How many watts, lumens, Kelvin ... Again the frantic reading of information on the Internet began. The trouble is that the network has a lot of unverified, outdated and incomplete information. Nevertheless, I shoveled everything I could and understood what kind of searchlights I needed.
I will not fool anyone further with a description of the lengthy process of selecting lighting for the herbalist. Let me just say that after a two-week run on "electric shops", the necessary LED searchlights were found, purchased, and a week later they were installed together with the T5 lamp and coolers in the cover.
Solving the problem of lighting, I, along the way, recited information about plants that are used in aqua-skype, including ground cover. Brought everything to one list and announced a hunt for them. And then another disappointment awaited me, in my city I somehow found only hemianthus cubu. A pitiful bunch cost 200 rub! I bought it, but I understood that things would not go on like this. On one grass you can go broke. A way out was found, all the rest of the grass was bought in the online store "Arovana" (Ukraine), where prices are simply encouraging. For a little money scored a whole herbarium! They sent it out quickly, and the plants came to me almost all alive.

I specifically give so much attention to plants, because many aquarists face a problem - where to get a huge amount of plants and not go bankrupt? In my opinion, buying a little, but diverse grass and growing the necessary volume by yourself is a good solution to the problem. Moreover, in the process of growing, you can understand how a plant behaves, how it feels in a given situation, under what light, with what fertilizers, how it lays down, spreads or stretches ... In general, you can get acquainted with the plant more closely eliminate undesirable situations with the transfer and adjustment of the finished aquascape.
As time passed, the bed grew ... But I did not sit in anticipation. All my attention was focused on parole (fertilizers), in particular, on the study of the composition, necessity and correctness of the use of micro and macro fertilizers, the supply of carbon dioxide. With CO2, the issue was resolved quite simply, - I used to use the "mash" in the aquarium before, - I decided to grow the scape on it. As you can see, I managed it.
Using a beer in an aquarium, I completely debunked the fears of a novice aquasuper, which implied that for a dense herbalist, it is imperative to buy an expensive CO2 bottle, a reducer, a magnetic valve, etc.
Questions with micro and macro fertilizers for plants, in principle, was also resolved quite simply. Self-made parole (so-called samoses) were rejected immediately, as a senseless occupation for alchemists. I have chosen the trademark "UDO Ermolaeva", in particular the preparations "Algitsid + CO2", "MICRO", "MACRO", "Iron", "Potassium". Additionally, I decided to apply tourmaline.
Finally, two months later, the climax came, - the garden was pulled out, the bank was washed ... pleasant minutes, hours and days of creativity began. Laying the substrate, soil, making biostarter and tourmaline, installing stones and forming hardscape. Then no less fascinating event - planting plants according to the conceived scheme.
When it was all over, joy knew no bounds! I already anticipated: "Now everything will take root, balance will arise, and it will be possible to show my work on our forum." But it was not there! Out of nowhere, flooded filament, so much so that not only that, there were no plants visible, they were dead, stunted ... and pearl and pearl thread!
Convulsively reading the information on this issue, I realized only one thing - there is no panacea! All the tips are of the same type, confused and, as they say, "finger in the sky." One thing was clear that something “wrong” and this “wrong” must be urgently eliminated.
Having collected the rest of my strength and fuse, put on a rubber swimming cap, I spent the whole month diving into my jar ... and in the breaks I sat by the aquarium with a mean male tear that drained onto the rubber cap already removed from the head ... gray hair was visible on my head))) gone ...
What I just did not do this month! He collected the thread every day mechanically, used algicide, played with the amount of lighting, udo and water changes. A crowd of saek (SAE), otsinklyus, snails was planted in the aquarium ... Needle did not recede, the plants did not grow, but stunted.
And here, at the suggestion of our moderator of the site Esta (Natalia Polskaya), it was decided to introduce "heavy artillery" - Amano's shrimp.
But, here's the bad luck, in my city to get amanok the whole problem! As a result, I nevertheless found a dozen, planted, in addition to them, introduced a detachment of shrimp sakura, crystals of red and black. And ... hallelujah !!! The evil thread shuddered and disappeared in horror during the week.
The plants “bloomed”, the sun rose over my scape, the fish merrily scurried back and forth, and the shrimps chirped together about something on their favorite crumble.
I, on the other hand, performed unheard-of African dance around the aquarium !!!
Here is such a Happy End)))
Now let's talk about more mundane things and the technical side of the question. Here are my notes.

Lighting for herbalist - aquarium with plants

This issue is a priority, and without solving it, it is impossible to go further. For an aquarium with live aquarium plants, you can derive the formula:

Lighting is the most important element, without it the plants will not grow, the process of photosynthesis will not occur, without it, no matter what you do, no matter how hard you try, all works will go down the drain.
My notes and results of the work done, I stated in these articles: LAMPS FOR THE AQUARIUM AND ILLUMINATION OF THE AQUARIUM BY YOUR OWN HANDS.
Here I will note that the standard lighting, the one that is under the standard cover, is not enough. For an aquarium tightly filled with plants, and even more so for a “herbalist” with a ground cover, you need lighting of 1W per liter, or even more. In addition, you need to understand that Watts are not everything, quality lighting characteristics are also important, such as the spectrum of light, Kelvin. In addition, it is important to understand and study the characteristics of a particular light source: the discreteness of the light, the suites, etc. And, selecting this or that light, it is important to proceed from the height of the water column of your aquarium. The higher the pole, the more powerful the illumination should be in order for the light to penetrate the water column and reach the bottom, to the ground cover plants.
What else. On the Internet, there is a "legend of omnipotent lamps for aquarium plants." We are talking about fluorescent lamps with a special spectrum, with peaks of red and blue light. These lamps are presented as a panacea and an easy way to deal with the cultivation of aquarium plants. However, it is not!!! It is a pity that it leads many people astray, so I want to debunk this mythical legend.
In fact, aquarium plants absorb the entire visible spectrum of light — from red to violet; plants need a full spectrum, not a cut-down one. Why, then, do they make and sell lamps with a red and blue spectrum? The fact is that it is scientifically proven that plants need more red and blue spectrum, but this does not mean that they do not need another spectrum !!!
Now imagine a newcomer replaced the regular lamps with special ones and waiting, waiting, waiting ... and when his plants grow! And they do not grow ... Yes, as an evil, instead of plants, flooded algae. Disruption of the sea: the money paid, but the effect is mute! Why all? Because there is a shortage of watts, the spectrum is not full, and besides, the red and yellow spectrum is loved not only by plants, but also by algae.
Conclusion. Do not try to compensate for the lack of lighting power with special lamps. Such lamps can be used only in combination with other lamps, for example, with fluorescent lamps with the marking "full spectrum".
No matter what type of light source you choose: fluorescent lamps, LED lighting or metal halide, carefully study its quality characteristics - not only Watts, but also suites, Kelvin, spectrality, Ra, etc.
Still. Critical about information on the Internet, recheck it. For example, often in the network you can read that LED lighting is not suitable for aquarium plants. However, it is not! Look at the date of publication of articles. Technical progress does not stand still and powerful LED strips and projectors have already appeared that meet the necessary requirements. See details LED tape in the aquarium.
Try to think about lighting your aquarium, so that it mimics the actions of Mother Nature. Namely: imitated dawn, zenith and sunset sun. For good growth and well-being of plants, it is not necessary to “fry them under monotonous lighting” for about twenty hours. It is enough to give a peak of powerful lighting for 3-4 hours, and the rest of the time to keep moderate lighting.
This can be achieved by a combination of light sources. For example, Amano in his lamps ADA uses metal halide lamp in combination with fluorescent lamps. I use two 30 Watt + LL T5 24 Watt LED lights (full spectrum) in my Travnik.
And also - pay attention reflectors.

Soil and substrate for herbalist and aquarium plants

The main points of the use of soil in the aquarium, I outlined in the articles SOIL FOR AQUARIUM PLANTS, TOURMALIN IN AQUARIUM.
I would like to draw your attention to the fact that there are a lot of substrates and soils and they are all different! Be sure to look at their compositions and study the issue of application. In this case, proceed from the requirements of your plants. Good substrate, good soil - this is 50% success in growing. This is a good feeding and excellent well-being of plants in general.
I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that the thickness of the soil in the aquarium should be about 5-7 cm. In order for the soil colonies of nitrifying bacteria to develop well in such a soil so that there are no oxygen-free zones (which leads to acidification of the soil), you need to select a light, porous and rounded ground. Alas, a heavy, angular ground over time compresses, which makes it difficult for water to circulate in the ground and leads to disastrous consequences.
At the same time, I note that a light, porous soil for aquarium plants (for example, Aquael Aqua Grunt and / or Aquael Aqua Floran) has a certain disadvantage - it is impossible for them to form slides, hills in an aquascape, with the addition of water the entire landscape spreads. Therefore, if you experiment with the topography of the soil, I advise you to mix light soils with heavy ones (for example, quartz chips, which you must first check for hissing).

Fertilizers for a blade of grass and aquarium with plants

Despite the fact that there is already a nutrient pad in your tank, you should also use liquid fertilizers containing micro and macro elements. In this case, it is desirable to separately have not only complex Udo, but also preparations containing individual elements. At the moment, I have a separate bottle of UDO Ermolaev iron and iodinolwhich contains potassium.

Filtering a herbalist - aquarium with plants

Studying information about the arrangement of the "herbalist", I read somewhere that in such an aquarium there should not be a strong filtration. Why, it was not specified. Thinking it over, I came to the conclusion that strong streams of water will take down the plants, and, moreover, a dense herbalist needs nitrates, but if the filtration will remove them, the plants will “starve”.
Given this, I'm 110l. Aquarium took external filter JBL CristalProfi e401 greenline - 450 l / h. And what do you think! His really missing.
Moreover, he noted that in the place where the flute is directed from the filter, the cube chemianthus and other ground cover is not growing.

It is worth noting that at night I additionally turn on a small internal filter. It basically works as an aerator, but it helps a little with filtering the herbalist. Therefore, the recommended power range of the filter 450-600l / h for herbalist per 100l.

Caring for a herbal aquarium with plants

Once the biobalance is established in the herbalist, it becomes easy to care for him:

- Every day you need to make liquid fertilizers, to monitor the supply of CO2

- weekly you need to make an easy cleaning of the aquarium, cutting plants and replacing 1/4 -1/2 of the water.

All this is not difficult and not troublesome!

Design and decoration of grass, aquarium with plants

My vision of this issue, I described in the article AQUARIUM DESIGN, ORDER IN CHAOS.
Today I can say that, in fact, it is the design of the future “herbalist” that is the most difficult thing. Everything else you can buy. But to invent, and even make it happen in life - is difficult, the process requires mental effort, imagination, fantasy. And while you need to follow certain rules!
On this let me finish the final report on the work done. You can talk about the "herbalist" and aquascape for a very long time, but on New Year’s Eve and I promised the guys on the forum to post this article this year))) I suggest discussing the unsaid in the forum thread ON STOP AMANO.

Very useful video about herbal aquarium, care and maintenance of aquarium plants

Algae for aquarium

Plants in an aquarium perform not only the role of a decorative, exotic element, but also bear a number of useful and necessary functions. They contribute to the biological equilibrium of water, its enrichment with oxygen, metabolism, purification from harmful substances that appear in the process of vital activity of fish, as well as from the residue of decomposed food.

Living algae for the aquarium are both useful and harmful. Useful types of algae in aquariums or harmless ones are green, brown and quartz.

Dangerous species of algae for the aquarium are blue-green or red - they quickly adapt, and because of them instantly the water begins to bloom.

Depending on what kind of algae got into the aquarium, you should either fight them or simply control their number.

Plant the plants correctly

Many people confuse algae with aquarium plants. Therefore, when asked how to plant algae in an aquarium, the answer is one - plants should be planted, algae enter the aquarium in the form of spores, with live fish food or with new plants.

How to plant aquarium rooting plants?

  • each plant before planting should be cleaned from rot, snail eggs, then washed with water and disinfected with a solution of manganese. Long roots need to be cut according to the layer of soil, this will encourage them to grow rapidly;
  • plants should not be planted very close, they need a place for development, it is best to plant them in a checkerboard pattern;
  • no need to squeeze the roots, while they must be completely covered with soil, and the growth bud must be on the surface;
  • It is more expedient to plant some types of plants not in the ground, but in a pot; this is convenient when cleaning the bottom soil;
  • should be familiar with the compatibility of plants.

A very useful and common plant for an aquarium is AnubiasIts leaves serve the fish first as a substrate for spawning, and then as a cover for it from fish.

Plant elodea will be a great filter, it will collect some of the turbidity and will pull out harmful compounds for its growth, thus cleaning the water.

Vallisneria and richie will provide additional oxygen into the water and reduce the possibility of algae entering the aquarium.

The number of fish and plants must be biologically balanced, but it must be remembered that the plants should not occupy more than 1/3 of the aquarium.

Installation of the aquarium: instructions and useful video

By purchasing the first aquarium and creating your underwater kingdom, you unwittingly touched by the mistakes made, incidents and incidents.
What I lacked at that stage was step-by-step brief instructions. After all, I simply did not want to read a whole book or a bunch of Internet articles about the first launch of an aquarium, because there was one “zombie thought” in my head - tomorrow the aquarium should earn!

OK, GET ON ...

1. Determine where the aquarium will stand?

- it is better to place the aquarium in a dark corner, so that direct sunlight does not fall on it (from them in the aquarium, algae may start up uncontrollably, sunlight creates glare on the glass).

- think about how the power supply will be suitable for the aquarium (for connecting: lighting, filter, aeration, heater).

- If you decide to put the aquarium is not special. stand, but on the furniture you already have, or you want to build an aquarium in a furniture niche - be sure to consider the weight of the aquarium with water so that it does not fall under its weight. The surface must be durable. CHECK !!!

- if you have small children, think about their safety and the safety of aquarium inhabitants from children. Children's access to the aquarium and its equipment should be limited (the principle - "look, but do not touch").

2. Pre-dial tap water for sludge.

- this should be done at least a day before landing the fish. The presence of dissolved oxygen in tap water can kill fish. Although in practice everything can do, especially if you use special tools to improve the composition of the water (for example, Aquaceave from the Tetra series). But it is better not to risk, especially for the first time. Remember, an aquarium for beginners - the first launch of an aquarium should be carried out “according to a template”, later being experienced you can experiment, for example, if the volume of the aquarium is large and there is no place to defend the water, fill the aquarium with tap water and defend it, at least 1 day. With this method, need / desirable "Aquaseiv."

3. Now we run to the pet store and:

- we buy a pre-looked aquarium (corresponding to the chosen place).

- filter and aeration (must correspond to the volume of the aquarium).

- choose the soil and decor (artificial plants, stones, castles, snags, etc.).

- If it is winter in the yard, you still need an aqua heater.

- thermometer.

4. We proceed to the step-by-step installation of the aquarium:

- level the surface special furniture or furniture on which there will be an aquarium. To do this, buy the simplest water building level ($ 3 - then it will still come in handy on the farm). The fact is that aquarium water creates pressure on the walls of the aquarium. And any even a small angle of inclination creates a very tangible pressure on a separate wall (the pressure will not be uniform). What aquarium can "burst." Level the surface as carefully as possible.

Directing a stream of water on the can, the water will spray and your decor and the soil will remain intact.

Fill the aquarium up to the top leaving, approximately, 5-7 cm from the edge.

6. Install filtering and aeration, run.

7. Now we run to the pet store again and buy long-awaited fish, snails, live plants ... don't forget to buy food (preferably wait at least seven days with this, the water should at least "infuse", aquarium chemistry accelerates this process: AquaSafe, Baktozim , Tetra NitratMinus Perls other).

8. Release the fish in your tank. The package with the fish is lowered first into the aquarium water, slightly scooped into the package of water and kept in the aquarium for about 15 minutes (for adaptation). Then turn the bag over and release the fish.

In the future, all you need is attention and care for your pets.

And with them will gradually come experience!

Buy aquarium plants: where better and inexpensive?

All about buying aquarium plants!

Issues associated with the acquisition of live aquarium plants arise from any aquarist, whether it be a novice or professional aquascape.

These questions are always important and relevant, as any aquarist would like to buy a healthy, beautiful plant and preferably cheaper!

Here is a list of questions that we put "on the agenda":

Where to buy aquarium plants?

Where to sell cheap aquarium plants?

Where to sell the most healthy and high-quality plants?

Which delivery of aquarium plants is better?

Well, let's consider all these questions in order. So, it is obvious that aquarium plants can be bought or ordered from:

- in the pet store of your city;

- in the online store;

- at razvodchik (from hands);

- firms specializing in the sale of meristem aquarium plants;

Buy aquarium plants in the city shop

Buying plants in the nearest pet shop pet store is the easiest and hassle-free way to purchase. But at the same time, this method is the most expensive and often the most poor quality!

The fact is that pet stores are the last link in the chain of sellers of plants, in connection with which they wind up just a fabulous price for a product and include there: the cost price of a plant, delivery of goods, rental of premises, salary of sellers, etc., etc., etc. As a result, the price tag for an aquarium plant becomes such that sometimes you want to frame it with a frame from rhinestones "Swarovski".

Poor price, but quality! Alas, most pet stores in any city, even the "capital" do not contain aquarium plants in proper conditions. Moreover, often service personnel and sellers do not have even the slightest idea of the proper care of plants. Plants just stand in the display aquariums, wither and "look with wet eyes on passing by aquarists with a prayer: take us away from here."

For the sake of justice, it is worth saying that there are exemplary pet shops, in which plants are kept and are in ideal conditions. But even in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, there are very few of them.

The bold cross on the acquisition of aquarium plants in the pet stores of the city puts an assortment - it is so scarce, especially in the provinces, that when you find and buy an Echinodorus gentle, you begin to rejoice in the acquisition, as if you had acquired the most elite, "overseas-rare" plant.

Findings: Buying aquarium plants in the shops of the city will always be in demand, the principle of "walking distance" will always play a dominant role in the consumer market. But if you have the opportunity, time and desire, it is better to consider and explore other options for acquiring the desired plants.

Buy aquarium plants in the online store

Significantly better way to purchase aquarium plants than in the shops of the city, is to order goods via the Internet.

At the moment, there is a huge number of aquarium online stores that specialize in the sale and delivery of aquarium plants.

What benefits do you get? Firstly, significantly low prices, secondly, often an extensive assortment of goods, thirdly, saving time, fourthly, often you get a bonus from online pet stores, in the form of additional, bonus branches of other plants.

What are the cons? First, the lack of visual inspection of the goods before purchase. If you do not know what kind of plant it is and how it grows, then it may happen that you buy one and grow another. The second, the main problem of remote purchase of goods is its delivery in integrity and safety. Online stores are not responsible for the quality and time of shipment of goods by mail or transport company. Sometimes, even very well-packed plants come in poor or even half-rotten condition.

Findings: When buying aquarium plants through an online store, you should clarify the information on the delivery time, it is advisable to choose the nearest online store in your region. Specify how the goods are packaged. It is advisable not to order / buy aquarium plants in the winter or summer period, when outside temperature drops to zero or vice versa tends to plus twenty-five degrees.

Buying aquarium plants from your hands

Actually such a purchase of plants is similar to buying through an online store. The difference is only in the absence of a check, and therefore guarantees to receive the right product, the absence of the actual possibility to file a claim in cases of which.

In this connection, our recommendations will be as follows:

- when transferring funds to a private razvodchiku, clearly indicate in the column the purpose of payment, for which you pay money. This will give you the opportunity to somehow argue their claims.

- if payment is made through the electronic money system (WebMoney, Yandex, Money, etc.), do not be lazy to check the reputation of the merchant account (WebMoney WMID). If the reputation rating is good, then you can trust the seller.

Despite the complexity of trusting relationships when purchasing aquarium plants from hands, the beauty of such a purchase lies in the fact that you can find the rarest plants that you will not find in the daytime with fire.

It is also worth noting that the overwhelming majority of breeders are experienced aquarists who know their craft, they are people who faithfully carry out their work. Even in bad weather conditions, they ship the plants, carefully packing and placing them in thermo boxes.

Not for the sake of advertising, but simply out of good intentions, we will give a link to the breeder who actively offers his services on our the forum - Denis, Nick Lotmai, Orel, here is his forum thread - here. The choice of plants is huge! Solve other questions directly, here the site administration, as they say, is not responsible =)

Purchase of meristem aquarium plants

To begin with, in order to evaluate this type of purchase, let's briefly discuss what meristem plants are.

Meristem aquarium plants are living plants of a new generation; this is a modern, advanced approach to growing aquarium plants.

The meristem propagation of plants is a vegetative propagation method - microcurrency. A piece of plant tissue is transferred to a sterile nutrient medium - a solution of mineral salts, amino acids, sugars and phyto-hormones. On this nutrient medium, the cells of the tissue begin to divide intensively and subsequently become new plants that are no different from the parent ones.

If we talk a little more, you should say the following. Plants have the unique ability to regenerate themselves from the smallest fragments. This is possible thanks to the cells that are contained in a particular plant tissue - the meristem, which is concentrated in the buds, young roots and tops of the stems. These tissues are able to differentiate and give rise to all the tissues and organs of the plant. Meristem cells are the same stem cells that have immortality under certain conditions.

What are the advantages we - consumers get from such products:

- no risk to get "sick" plants. Meristem plants do not have fungi, bacteria and viruses. They do not have snails and other small parasites. They do not have algae.

- genetic homogeneity of the material. For growing plants selected only the best material.

- compact packaging and trouble-free transportation of goods - convenient to buy, transport and plant. Plants are in a compact closed container, which allows you to consider the selected plant before buying. Information on the label, including a brief description of the plant and the best conditions for its maintenance, will help to make the right choice for your aquarium. And most importantly - no water, packaging bags, the risk of wrinkling or breaking the plant during transportation and other "charms" of the usual purchase of plants from the aquarium. In the container itself, the plant can live for more than a month, which makes it possible to postpone the landing, without thinking how to preserve it - an ideal option for any region of our vast country.

The future of Russian high aquaristics is undoubtedly also for meristem plants. And finally, finally - this future has come true! There are a lot of “bourgeois brands” that have already captured our post-Soviet market and are massively offering their meristem products. But finally, we got "our worthy response to Chamberlain." Let me bring to your attention, in fact, the first domestic company that has its own laboratory and is engaged in the cultivation of meristem plants - AquaGlass! Aqua-glass is a starting, pilot project of people who are not indifferent to the world of domestic aquarium hobby; these are enthusiasts who, with every fiber of their soul, are trying to make our world a better place. From the bottom of my heart I would like to wish the guys success and good luck, and shout the slogan: "We will support the domestic producer"!

Having diminished, let's consider the pricing policy, storage and delivery of such plants. In general, it would be wrong to say that one or another product is better. But there are several obvious factors due to which our domestic products have advantages: the plants are fresh (they are not brought from abroad, the finished products are immediately sent to the final consumer), "fair meristem" (plants are grown in the meristem, and not planted in a gel with the use of antibiotics), constant work on improving the plant in the container (quality and quantity), varying degrees of growth for ease of planting, etc.

How much is such a miracle? You ask. The pricing policy for a particular type of meristem plant is different, but in general, the price tag ranges from 350-390 rubles per container. Subjectively, of course, it can be said that the price is high compared with the prices of distribution and online stores (and that is not a fact). But the great bonus of a meristem product is its safety - you get the volume of plants that you ordered and which is in the container. That is, you do not need to worry that a part of the product will disappear or, after delivery of the plant, you will need to “pump out” a month, another. As an example, I will cite one case that the ideological inspirer of the domestic meristem told us: “Somehow we sent our products to one of the distant regions of our country. And the parcel was lost. The hysterics began for everyone, because plants could not And after 10 days (after sending) the client calls and says that right now he receives plants and all plants in perfect condition (and among the plants there were 5 containers of chemical cubes). And this is at an outdoor temperature of about -5 ".

Unpretentious aquarium plants

Unpretentious aquarium plants, what are they? What is their simplicity?
As you know, aquarium plants require great attention. To achieve the desired result, you need time, patience and knowledge of the necessary rules for the maintenance of aquarium plants:
1. Water (maintaining the desired temperature, CO2 content, hardness and other indicators).
2. Soil (lack of metals, nutritious and porous).
3. Artificial lighting (3-5 hours).
But there are plants for which the water quality is not so important, the condition of the soil is rather weak (moderate) illumination (1-2 fluorescent lamps with an aquarium height of 35-40 cm) and a low concentration of carbon dioxide (2-6 mg / l). Such plants, ideal for a beginner aquarist, they will adequately go through this difficult path with you and will win your love forever. And importantly, they are easy to find on sale.
Heroes of the Festivities:

1. Java moss (Vesicularia dubyana)
Hypnaceae family.
One of the most unpretentious plants, very similar to a ball of thread, to which the pets have already managed to attach their paws. Java moss has no roots (does not need planting in the ground). Its branch consists of small leaves, 4 mm each, which grow in pairs. Feels comfortable on the elements of the decor of the aquarium, attaching to them independently, or you yourself can attach the moss with the help of a fishing line or a dense thread. You can control the number and placement of moss yourself by separating several threads and placing them in a place that you feel comfortable.

2. Thailand pterygoid fern (Microsorum pteropus)
Family Millipede (Polypodiaceae).
Shade-tolerant plant. Does not have a root system (does not need planting in the ground). With the help of rhizoids (root formations) is attached to the stones in the aquarium, etc. You can grow it in an aquarium of any size. Растет медленно, один лист в месяц, ярко-зеленые ланцетовидные листья достигают 25-30 см. Если температура воды > 24°С, рост папоротника замедляется. Размножается таиландский папоротник вегетативно, делят растение на части с 2-3 листочками.

3. Роголистник (Ceratophýllum)
Семейство Роголистниковые (Ceratophyllaceae).
The fry will be delighted with the thick thickets of rogolopik.
The hornberry can be grown in a warm tropical or in a cold-water aquarium. But the higher the temperature of the water, the faster it grows (the optimum temperature is 20-30 ° C).

4. Lemongrass or Nomafila direct (Nomaphila stricta or Nomaphila corymbosa)
Family Acanthaceae (Acanthaceae).
For lemongrass is suitable a large size aquarium. It has light green oval pointed leaves. Reaching a large size, plant height 20-30cm, can come out of the water. Under good conditions, lemongrass grows up to 10 cm per week. The optimum water temperature is 22-28 ° C. A surface plant blooms all year round, flowers of lilac color with honey aroma. Lemongrass propagates by cuttings, the apical shoots are separated from the mother's shoots and placed in the aquarium until the roots appear, and then planted in the ground. When cutting the plant increases the formation of lateral shoots. The only drawback is a strong root system. The thickness of the soil should be at least 5-7cm.

5. Hygrophil patterned (Hygrophila polysperma "Rosa Nervis")
Family Acanthaceae (Acanthaceae).
It has reddish leaves because of pronounced pink and white veins. It retains its decorative qualities only in good light; fluorescent lamps with a power of 0.5-0.7 W / l will be required. The soil should be small. Loves a temperature not lower than 24 degrees. It grows quickly, plant height is 30-50 cm. Good looking woman in the center and in the background of the aquarium. Hygrophilum has thin and branching stems. Vegetatively propagated by cutting. The top of the plant with 4-6 leaves cut, leave in the water column of the aquarium until the roots, and then planted in the ground. After this procedure, the number of side shoots in the plant increases.

6. Indian water fern (Ceratopteris thalictroides)
Family Hornlike (Ceratopteridaceae).
Floating plant. For it is not important the composition of the water and the absence of soil. The most important thing is that the distance between the water level and the lid of the aquarium should be sufficient, on which the lamps are mounted, should be sufficient so that the plant does not burn.
If the fern is planted in the ground. It should be noted that the ground should be fine, coarse sand is best suited. Layer 4-5cm soil. Comfortable water temperature of 22-26 ° C. The fern does not like direct sunlight, so the plant must be shaded by planting it in the background of the aquarium. Fern does not need a constant change of water, it feels good and grows even with a high content of humic acids. Water fern propagates vegetatively. On old plants develop "kids" - small ferns. Over time, the "kids" develops a root system and leaflets, they emerge. Thus, we get a floating plant that you can plant in the ground, or you can leave to surf the water spaces of your aquarium.

7. Echinodorus of Asherson (Echinodorus aschersonianus)
Chastuhovye family (Alismataceae).
Echinodorus loves the water temperature to be not lower than 22 ° C, so the plant will feel best in a tropical aquarium. Lighting should be top, side light leads to deformation of the bush. Strong lighting echinodorus does not require. The soil should contain a large amount of sludge, you can even add a little clay and coal under the bush. Soil - medium or small pebbles. The soil layer is small, about - 5 cm. Echinodorus reproduces vegetatively. Forms floral arrows, which appear 1-2 daughter plants. “Babies” can be cut off only after they have roots and 5-7 leaves. You can tilt the flower arrow with the child plant to the ground and press it with a stone so that it takes root. Echinodorus can be grown in a small aquarium. The maximum height of the bush is about 30 cm, but usually the plant is smaller - about 15-20 cm. The echinodorus is placed in the foreground of the aquarium, as it forms a dense, beautiful rosette of leaves.

8. Echinodorus Bleher or Yarrow (Echinodorus bleheri or paniculatus)
Chastuhovye family (Alismataceae).
For the first time this plant was brought to Europe in 1957.
Unpretentious in content, can grow in a variety of conditions. It has a short stem and leaves collected in the outlet. But still, Ekhinodorus Blekher loves the high temperature of water 22-28 ° C. This is a massive plant that reaches a height of 40-50cm. For him fit a large aquarium. It is better to place it in the background so that it does not shade other plants. The lighting for this type of Echinodorus can be both strong and medium, it can withstand shading. The soil is small silted or slightly pebble. Vegetatively propagated, as Echinodorus Asherson, forms a floral arrow.

9. Arrowhead rounded (Sagittaria teres)
Chastuhovye family (Alismataceae).
Can be kept in a cold water aquarium. It grows well at a temperature of 18-24 ° C. In an aquarium, it propagates well with soil shoots and under favorable conditions it can form thickets, but rarely blooms. Leaves collected in the outlet.

10. Marsilea hirsuta
Family Marsilee
It is easy to care for marsilea. This is a great plant for the foreground aquarium. Its height is only a few centimeters (2-10cm), it grows slowly. Usually a plant with four leaf leaves, similar to clover leaves. It is unpretentious to light and water temperature (18-28 ° C). But if you want to create a dense carpet from Marsilea, you will need a lot of light and an additional supply of CO2.

11. Crinum Thai or Thai (Krinum thaianum)
Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae).
Bulbous aquatic plant. Not very whimsical. It reaches 40cm, so it is recommended to plant it in the background of the aquarium. The illumination is moderate, the temperature range is wide - 22-27 ° С. It grows fast enough, especially if the soil is rich in nutrients. Easily tolerates the disadvantages of growing conditions, as it has an onion with a large supply of nutrients. That is why krinum refers to plants that are recommended for beginner aquarists. Another advantage of this plant is that the leaves of the krinum are very strong and most aquarium fish cannot damage them. Propagated by daughter bulbs and seeds. When planting, the bulb should not be buried; it should protrude 2/3 of the soil, otherwise it may rot. An adult plant, if it grows in good conditions (high temperature, low water level, strong lighting), sometimes blooms above the water, the flowers are white, large. But it has not been possible to get high-grade seeds in artificial conditions.

12. Anubias nana (Anubias nana or Anubias barteri var. Nana)
Family Aronnikovye or Araidae (Araceae).
It is a shade-loving plant, but it also grows well in bright light. The optimum temperature is 22-26 ° C. Water indicators on the growth of Anubis does not affect. In the aquarium breeds only in a vegetative way, divide the rhizome of an adult plant, thus obtaining new shoots. It grows slowly. Water should be clean, Anubias Nana does not tolerate algae plaque, the plant dies. Looks good in the foreground of the aquarium, forms thickets.

13. Naiad Guadalupe or finely toothed (Najas guadelupensis or Najas Flexilis)
Family Nayadovye (Najadaceae).
Forms gorgeous thickets in the aquarium, which makes it an indispensable plant during the spawning of fish. Water hardness does not affect the growth of mollusks. Temperature indicators have a wide range - from 18 to 30 ° C. The lighting is moderate. The nature of the soil for Guadalupe naiad does not play a significant role, it can even be grown floating in the water. Nutrients naiad absorbs its entire surface. Naiad Guadalupe multiplied by cuttings.
