Robot Fish: Operation Tips

Robots have long been part of our daily lives: there are kitchen robotic devices, manufacturing, automotive (“robot” gearbox), robot toys, and so on. The robotization imperceptibly permeated almost all aspects of human life, so it is not at all surprising that it found its rightful place in aquaristics.

What is a robot fish

From a technical point of view, this device can be called an electronic device that turns on when it comes into contact with water.

This "toy" for children and adults was invented several years ago by Japanese engineers and designers. In principle, scientists and engineers of the Land of the Rising Sun have long been leaders in the process of creating various technical innovations, which then become popular throughout the world. That is what happened with the fish-robots, the demand for which only grows every year.

The electronic device inside the waterproof plastic case consists of an electronic microcircuit (control element) and a micromotor. Of course, there must still be a power supply. Its role is usually performed by small batteries (for example, alkaline RL44, A76 batteries or the like). The size of artificial fish can be different, and the most common are "toys" about 7-8 cm long.

The color scheme of aquarium robots is diverse: red, blue, green, black, gray, spotty, striped. It is impossible to list all types of coloring these "toys".

Light-emitting diodes, which are mounted in the housing of the device, turn on when the ambient light decreases. In the evening and at night, the aquarium is illuminated by the fish themselves, it is a very original nightlight, where the light source is a flock of floating robots, very similar to the real inhabitants of the water element.

Relatively recently invented, small water robots have received the international name RoboFish, which literally means “robot fish”. Accurately and without excessive fantasy.

A bit of history

About 10 years ago, Japanese scientists and designers started creating robots that simulate the behavior and movement of fish. The experiment was conceived as a way to study the lifestyle of real, living sea and river inhabitants.

The first managed models were released by Sedensha Co LTD, but they were controlled by signals that go through the wire. Soon radio-controlled prototypes appeared.

Improvement of the samples of underwater robots (in particular, at the Japanese Institute of High Technologies) led to the emergence of devices that mimic turtles, swordfish, seahorses, rays and other amazing inhabitants of the seas and oceans. More recently, even managed to create a high-tech robot, like a jellyfish!

Inventions of Japanese designers, initially aimed at solving scientific problems, soon became the basis for the creation of mass production of water toys for children and adults. In recent years, ZURU from New Zealand, whose high-tech toys are massively sold in more than 40 countries, has been very successful in this activity.

How do the fish-robots in the aquarium

These technical devices are made in such a way that they do not work outside of water. On land, they can be stored for a long time.

However, as soon as artificial fish fall into the water, they turn on and begin to imitate the movements of real decorative aquarium animals:

  • straightened synthetic fins,
  • LEDs turn on,
  • micromotors make robots move at different speeds up and down, back and forth, turn around their axis and even turn backwards.

It is very easy to operate high-tech devices, as they turn on themselves when they enter the aquatic environment. It is only necessary to periodically change small batteries, since a pair of batteries lasts for 5-6 hours of active work. When you need to temporarily disable RoboFish, it is enough just to get them out of the water, and re-activation is possible after any period of time.

If you place decorations in an aquarium, install artificial plastic aquatic plants, put robots-fish in it, then you can create an excellent corner imitating the beautiful underwater world!

Advantages and disadvantages

Robotic fish can swim in any water tank. They can be run in an ordinary jar, in a bath, in a mini-aquarium, in a children's pool.

  • The main advantage is that in this case it is not at all necessary to acquire and use auxiliary technical equipment - filters, aerators, compressors.
  • Aquarium chemistry is not necessary to combat algae, since it is sufficient to simply pour out the old water and pour fresh water.
  • There is no need to buy food for fish and, accordingly, to clean the aquarium from debris.

In addition, these decorative fish can get sick, and the only "disease" of RoboFish is associated with a drop in voltage of autonomous batteries.

As in the present "live" aquarium, aquamir, populated by robot fish, you can decorate with underwater grottoes and castles, arrange and fix artificial plants (and not necessarily water plants!), Beautifully lay a multicolored primer and even tint with non-aggressive dyes. In short, using RoboFish at home or in the office allows you to turn your personal fantasy to full power.

Of course, robots (including those similar to fish) will never completely replace living things. Artificial moving fish will not suit lovers of real, natural nature. However, as a toy or a bright decoration, an aquarium with RoboFish can decorate any room and bring joy to your children!

Blue screen

The wall aquarium is a beautiful and original decoration of any interior, representing a living picture of the water world. Wall aquariums of the new generation are equipped with modern high-tech qualities, have a rather high price. Such an aquarium is distinguished by its extraordinary qualities, its compactness, unexpected picture effect distinguishes it from other aquarium types.

Kinds

Wall type aquarium can be of various shapes. Square or rectangular is also called aquarium pictures or screens, such an aquarium resembles a flat-screen TV. The aquarium picture is framed with a frame, its weight should not exceed 70 kg, and the glass thickness is 20 cm. Such an aquarium usually serves as a room divider into zones. Capacity semicircular shape can be flat or convex.

The aquarium can be suspended or recessed into the wall. Suspended types are usually small and fixed on the main wall. For embedded, you need a special permit, for them prepared in advance a niche in the wall. This type is better to install at the stage of designing a room or repair. Sometimes they are built into kitchen furniture or windows specially shaded from the direct rays of the sun.

Many master aquarists have learned how to make such aquariums with their own hands, which gives them the opportunity to express their imagination, to arrange and arrange this structure at will.

Installation

Before installing this design with your own hands, you need to seriously consider all the details of its device and future maintenance, as there are some difficulties in the care. It is necessary to take into account the correct location, measure the area and size of aquarium accessories in the form of a compressor, lighting lamps, filter. Such aquariums are put on for a long time, and do not interfere in advance to consult with experts and designers.

If time permits, it is preferable to run the aquarium before installing it on the wall, and only after achieving biological balance in it, you can safely mount it in the wall.

Wall mounted aquarium is made of high strength materials, mainly from acrylic, seamless construction. Acrylic is lighter than glass, minimally distorts the space and does not leak.

It is very important to build an aquarium in a wall without communications and wires, be sure to arrange a secret closet above it for the possibility of feeding fish, changing water and filters. The best option is to install the wall structure below the wall niche. It is important to have a nearby electrical outlet. When installing an aquarium with your own hands, you need to adhere to safety requirements, which call for adhering to an aquarium weight of no more than 100 kg and a depth of no more than 18 cm.

To install a wall aquarium with your own hands, you will need a frame made of duralumin, show-case glass, and a stainless steel sheet for the bottom. For framing frame using plastic or metal. As the lighting will need fluorescent lamps.

Service

Taking care of such an aquarium with their own hands is inconvenient because of the impossibility of pulling the container out of the wall, since the fixings are not designed for such procedures. A device in the form of curved brushes and other means for cleaning the soil will bring a lot of trouble, as it is difficult to reach the bottom with his hands.

High-quality modern wall aquariums are equipped with the necessary equipment from the factory, which includes a filter, a display, a thermostat, an automatic feeding system for fish and a heater. There is also a lighting and self-cleaning system. The owner will be able to control it using the remote control and computer equipment.

Plants

In the selection of living plants, it is necessary to take into account the rate of their growth, it is better to plant slow-growing and not magnificently growing long-stemmed plants. Preference can be given to various types of cryptocorynes, Wallisneria, Echinodorus, Anubias.

It is quite difficult to remove plants from the wall aquarium or add others with your own hands. Therefore, artificial plants are often used for the stability of a living picture.

Fishes

In the wall type of aquarium it is better to populate small schooling or sedentary fish with a flattened body on either side. The number of individuals and their size should be suitable for the volume of the aquarium, where up to 2 liters of water are needed for 1 cm of the body of the fish.

Not recommended bottom fish type catfish. Goldfish and cichlids will pick the ground and gnaw the plants, so you have to clean the tank more often, which is very difficult to do, especially with your own hands. Danio, lyalius, guppies, scalars, neons, barbs, and haracin ones are well suited.

Features

Consider the main features of these aquariums:

  • It is important to remember that the best type of wall-mounted aquarium will look at eye level at arm's length;
  • the placement of such an aquarium in the bedroom can play the role of a kind of lamp and will promote relaxation;
  • if an aquarium is installed in a through opening, then there will be a great opportunity to observe the fish from two rooms;
  • Sunlight should not come to the aquarium, as there will be a risk of algae overgrowing.
  • in order not to listen to the noise of the pump in the aquarium at the same time from two rooms, it is better to install it not from above, but in one of the rooms.

A wall mounted aquarium is the best solution in small-scale or office premises; it will bring real pleasure after a hard day’s work, calming the nervous system with its pacifying landscape. A wall-mounted aquarium is an expensive pleasure, but it can surprisingly transform interior design in any style and provide a stunning look.
