Properly feed the fish - moderately and not often

One of the first questions that people ask sellers of aquarium fish - and how to feed them correctly? You may think that this is a simple question, but far from it. Of course, if you do not want to bother yourself, you can just throw a few flakes into the aquarium, but if you want your fish to be healthy, play with all the colors of the rainbow and delight you, then we will tell you how to properly feed the aquarium fish.

How much to feed the fish?

I would say that the majority of aquarists feed their fish correctly, but too often they have to see how over-feeding turns the jar into a foul-smelling swamp or fish that is so overwhelmed that they forget how to swim.

And it is easy to understand why this is happening. There is no specific standard, and feeding fish may not be an easy task for a beginner. The fact is that with the fish, we most interact during feeding. And so you want to feed them a little bit more.

And a novice aquarist feeds the fish, every time he sees that they are lonely asking for feed from the front glass. And most of the fish will ask for food even when they are about to burst (this applies especially to cichlids), and it is so hard to understand when it is already enough.

And yet - how often do you need and how many times to feed aquarium fish? Fish should be fed 1-2 times a day (for adult fish, fry and adolescents should be fed much more often), and with the amount of food that they eat in 2-3 minutes. Ideally, no food would get to the bottom (but do not forget to feed catfish separately). We will immediately agree that we are not talking about herbivores, for example, ancistrus or brocade catfish. These eat almost around the clock, scraping algae. And do not worry, it is not necessary to carefully monitor each time if they ate, just a couple of times a week look.

Why is it so important not to overfeed the fish? The fact is that overfeeding negatively affects the state of the aquarium. Food falls to the bottom, gets into the ground, rots and starts to spoil the water, while serving as a nutrient base for harmful algae.
At the same time in the water accumulate nitrates and ammonia, which poison the fish and plants.
Dirty, algae-covered aquariums with sick fish are often the result of overfeeding and dirty water.

What to feed?

So, how to feed, we figured out ... And what to feed aquarium fish?
All feed for aquarium fish can be divided into four groups - branded, frozen, live food and vegetable food.

If you want to keep a healthy fish with a beautiful color, it is better to feed all kinds of these feeds. Of course, some fish can eat only live food, others only vegetable. But for ordinary fish, the ideal diet consists of branded feeds, regular feeding with live feeds, and not regular plant foods.

Branded feed - provided that you buy real ones, and not fake, can be the basis of the diet for most fish. Modern branded food for fish, contain all the necessary substances, vitamins and minerals, so that the fish was healthy. To buy such food is no longer a problem, and the choice is huge.
Separately, I will note the so-called dry food - dried gammarus, cyclops and daphnia. Extremely bad feeding option for any fish. Does not contain nutrients, poorly digested, allergen for people.
But do not use dry food - dried daphnia, there are almost no nutrients in it, fish suffer from stomach diseases and grow poorly!

Branded food - flakes, granules, pellets

Live food - one of the best fish feeds that need to be fed fish regularly. It is not necessary to feed the same species all the time, alternate, because fish loves diversity. Of the most common live food - bloodworm, tubule, koretra. But it also has serious drawbacks - you can bring diseases, poison the fish with poor-quality food, and you can’t carry out the bloodworm too often, it doesn’t digest the fish well. The simplest disinfection of live food is freezing, which kills some of the nastiness in it.

Motyl

Frozen feed - for some, live food can be unpleasant, and women do not welcome the swarming worms in the refrigerator ... Therefore, there is an excellent alternative - frozen live food for fish. I choose them for feeding, as they are easy to dose, they are easily stored, do not deteriorate, and contain all those substances that are alive. And often you can buy a mix of live food, which will contain several species - bloodworm, artemia and coretre together.

Frozen feed

Vegetable feed - rarely find a fish that sometimes does not eat plants in nature. And for most types of fish, vegetable food is desirable. Of course, there are exceptions in every rule and predators will not eat grass. Be sure to read what kind of food prefers fish living in your aquarium.
Vegetable food can be bought as branded, in tablets or in the form of flakes, and added to the aquarium on their own. For example, antsistrusy eat zucchini, cucumbers and cabbage with pleasure.

Conclusion

If you follow these tips, you do not overfeed the fish, give it a nutritious diet full of nutrients, and as a result you will get a beautiful, healthy fish that will live for a long time. Feeding fish is the basis of their content, and you will not regret the time spent if you do everything right from the very beginning.

The secrets of aquarist: how often to feed the fish

The first, and perhaps the main question asked by novice aquarists - how and what to feed the fish. At the initial stage, this question raises great doubts. You can watch as the fish swim around the feeders gathering food, as much as you like, so beginners can overfeed pets, throwing handfuls of food to them all day. But do not forget that aquarium inhabitants can also overeat, which will have a bad effect on health and water.

At the beginning of the conversation it may seem that this question is easy and unambiguous, in fact, everything is much more complicated. If you want to become a real aquarist, and not the unfortunate host, who once a day throws flakes to their pets, you will have to thoroughly study the issue of feeding the aquarium inhabitants and find their individual approach to them. Proper feeding is a pledge of healthy fish that behave actively and beautifully shimmer with the best flowers.

How many times do you need to feed the fish

Practice shows that most fish lovers choose the right feeding tactics. But, sometimes you have to deal with neglected cases when the owners are addicted and overfeed the fish so that they suffer from excess weight and physically can not swim. At the same time, the excess feed begins to rot, forming a real green swamp with all the ensuing consequences. And this is not surprising. After all, there is no one universal algorithm for feeding all types of fish, so the question is how, what and how much to feed the fish becomes critical.

A beginner aquarist is misled by the fish themselves. They begin to swim at the trough and look lonely into the front glass, as if asking for some more food. However, it should be realized that most fish will continue to beg for food even in moments of overeating, such is their nature. This is especially true for cyclides.

The first and basic rule - limit feeding to 1-2 times per day. This rule applies to adult fish. Fry and teens are fed more frequently. The ideal is a portion that is eaten in the first 3-4 minutes. The norm is observed in the event that no food does not have time to touch the bottom. The exceptions are catfish and fish that feed from the bottom. For them, it is better to use a special feed. Of course, it is impossible to forbid catfish and other herbivores to eat plants and algae, but this is a natural process that will not make them worse. If you are afraid that the fish do not get enough food, then follow their condition for a week.

It is very important to observe the portions and not to overfeed pets. A well-running aquarium has its own microclimate, so excess food can cause imbalance. Remains of feed fall to the bottom and start the process of rotting, which spoils the aqua and causes the formation of harmful algae. In addition, ammonia and nitrates increase in water, which adversely affects all residents.

If you periodically suffer from dirty water, the presence of algae and fish diseases, think about how often you feed the fish and how much food you give them.

The main types of feed

If at intervals it became clear, then with what to give them, not really. Aquarists use four types of feed:

  1. Live food;
  2. Branded;
  3. Vegetable;
  4. Frozen.

Ideal if you will combine all types of feed. In this case, your fish will be healthy and will give you an aesthetic pleasure playing its colors. It is not excluded that fish will eat only vegetable or only protein food, it all depends on the breed of aquarium inhabitants. In nature, someone chooses a vegetarian lifestyle, but someone does not mind to eat their own kind. But if you disassemble most of the fish, it is better to use a mix of several feeds. Purchased branded food can be used as the main food, regularly please fish with live food and sometimes give vegetable food.

If you decide to go under this scheme, then pay great attention to the choice of branded feed. It is better to give preference to well-known brands that have been on the market for more than one year and are tested by experienced aquarists. This food is suitable for almost all fish. It is balanced, it contains the necessary vitamins and trace elements. You can find it in any pet store. Do not confuse branded feed with dry. Food consisting of dried daphnia, cyclops or gammarus is not the best food for the daily diet of your fish. It is not desirable to feed with such food, because it is deficient in nutrients, it is poorly absorbed and, among other things, is an allergen for humans.

Food live food - the most preferred option. The fish should be given regularly as an additional feeding every other day. Like people, aquarium residents love a variety of foods, so try to alternate food as much as possible. The most common are the chimneyweed, bloodworm and coretil. The only, but very significant disadvantage is that this type of food is most often mined in its natural environment, which means that it is possible to bring the infection into your water body. It is best to freeze it before feeding fish. This method kills a number of harmful bacteria.

Featuring an alternative to live food - frozen. Agree, not everyone can be measured with the settlement in the fridge of live worms. For such there is an alternative - frozen worms. They are easy to dose, they are stored for a long time, contain a full set of vitamins. If you carefully study the pet stores, you can find miksovannyh species, where in one pack will be all three popular types of worms.

Vegetable food is an integral part of fish life in the natural environment. Most fish will have to try and cook green food. Of course, feeding predators with grass is stupid, but the rest will gladly enjoy the greenery suitable for them. It is difficult to give general recommendations, since different fish prefer different feeds. There are several options for plant foods:

  • Pills;
  • Flakes;
  • Branded;
  • Natural.

To natural can be attributed cucumber, zucchini or cabbage. Such feeding will allow you to enjoy your clean aquarium with healthy and beautiful fish. With proper feeding, the lifespan of the fish increases.

How and how much to feed the fish

HOW AND HOW MUCH TO FEED A FISH?

One of the most important question for any living thing on the Planet is the question of food. Alas, for some reason, in most cases, with respect to aquarium fish, people forget about it and believe that having filled them with a pinch of daphnia or other food, this will be quite enough for their normal existence. However, it is not!

The diet of any pet should be varied and correct. For example, people buy kittens and dogs for dry food, meat, chicken and milk with sour cream. Moreover, they give vitamins and other supplements. The same should be the aquarium pets. Their diet should be balanced. A beginner aquarist should not be afraid of "scary words": live food, freezing, live dust. No need to think that all this needs to get, grind and cook. Everything is much easier than it seems! And in this I will try to convince you.

Various feeding fish - the key to success

All aquarium fish can be divided into: carnivorous, herbivorous and omnivorous. This gradation of fish can be further broken down into: phytophages, limnofagof, malakofagi, ichthyophages, parasitic ..., but the essence of the gradation remains the same, so we will not focus on this.
Most aquarium fish are omnivorous. That is, their diet should include both vegetable and "meat" - protein food. From this statement we can make a logical conclusion that feeding the fish with one type of food will not bring anything to good. Not getting enough of the necessary nutrients the fish become sluggish, their immunity decreases, the body becomes unable to resist the pathogenic flora, the fish get sick and die. A very good example is the research of ichthyologists, who have established that even unpretentious, viviparous guppies stop giving birth with regular and monotonous feeding them only with dry food.
Here is the table, the content of components in the feed for different groups of fish:

UNCLEAR LEARNINGS OF FEEDING FISHES First,
you need to read and study the literature about your fish. Find out their taste preferences and behavioral characteristics.
Having repulsed from the received information, it is necessary to select the appropriate dry feed, which can be divided into groups:

FORM

BY CONTENT

Flakes, plates (for feeding fish floating on the surface and in the water column)

vegetable

Pellets (for larger fish)

animals (protein)

Tablets (sinking food for catfish and other bottom fish)

mixed

There are other specialized fish food that are sold to pet stores, for example, to improve the color of fish or special food for a certain type of fish, for example, "Discus menu".
Based on my own experience, I want to advise you to take several types of feed at once and mix them in one can. This is due to the fact that aquariums usually contain different types of fish that require different feeding. Mixing dry food of the same form, we get a kind of mix that is suitable for all fish.
When purchasing feed, you should also pay attention to the shelf life and packing density of the feed. This should be done due to the fact that over time, dry food loses its properties, and if packaging is violated (storage conditions), pathogenic flora will generally form in the food. Also, one should give preference to feeds of well-known trademarks, for example, TM Sera or Tetra.
SecondlyWhen feeding aquarium fish you should not forget about vitamins, which are used as an additive to feed.
Vitamin A - necessary for cell growth, especially for fry and juveniles. Lack of this vitamin leads to slow growth and curvature of the back and fins. Also, vitamin A reduces stress.
Vitamin D3 - participates in the development of the skeletal system.
Vitamin E - necessary for the reproductive system of fish. Vitamins A and E are used together because they are ineffective without each other.
Vitamins of group B (B1 - thiamine, B2 - riboflavin, B12) - normalize fish metabolism.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) - forms teeth and bones, is involved in metabolism.
Vitamin H (biotin) - needed for cell development.
Vitamin M - lack of folic acid is expressed in the darkening of the color of the fish, they become sluggish.
Vitamin K - needed for the circulatory system.
Choline - needed for normal growth, as well as regulates the sugar content in the blood.
As a recommendation, you can recommend the following products:
Sera fishtamin
- emulsified multi-vitamin preparation for strengthening fish during and after diseases, after settling in a new aquarium, for breeding and for enriching the feed for fry with vitamins. sera fishtamin is also suitable for strengthening pond fish before and after hibernation.
It can be added directly to the aquarium water. However, it is better to add 6-7 drops to 1 fish in the feed a few minutes before feeding.
Application:
1. During the illness and after recovery of the fish, fishtamine should be added daily directly to the aquarium at the rate of: 6-7 drops per 50 liters of water. Aquarium lighting is desirable to turn off.
3. After relocating new fish to the aquarium, you need to quickly add Fishtamine directly to the aquarium from the calculation: 6-7 drops per 50 liters of water
4. In order to breed, it is necessary to add Fishtamine before the spawning process begins and within ten days after the process starts directly to the fish feed at the rate of: 4-6 drops per 50 liters of water. It is necessary to wait some time until the drug is absorbed into the feed and then feed.
5. To improve the growth of fry, it is necessary to add Fishtamine directly to Micron, Micropan, Micrograin or Artemia solution once every two days, mix quickly and give enriched feed to the young fish. The daily dose of fishtamine can vary from one to five drops and depends on the amount of feed and the number of fry.
6. To enrich the frozen live feed with vitamins, immediately before feeding, add Fishtamine to feed at the rate of: three to four drops for each portion of feed after it is thawed. It is necessary to wait some time until the drug is absorbed into the feed and then feed.
7. To create optimal conditions for the existence of pond fish in late autumn, as long as the fish take food, and also in early spring, as soon as the fish begin to take food; for prophylaxis, as well as during the treatment of fish from viral diseases, fishtamine should be added daily for three weeks in a volume of 10-12 drops directly to the feed of pond fish. It is necessary to wait some time until the drug is absorbed into the feed and then feed.
Content of additives per 1 ml:
Vitamin A 500 I.E.
Vitamin B1 2.00 mg
Vitamin B2 2.00 mg
Vitamin B6 2.00 mg
Vitamin B12 2.00 mcg
Vitamin C 55.00 mg
Vitamin D3 100 I.E.
Vitamin E 5.00 mg
Vitamin K3 1.00 mg
Nicotinic acid 10.00 mg
Calcium Pantothenate 5.00 mg
Folic acid 0.50 mg
Tetra vital - provides the fish with vital energy and health, as well as a natural color.
Tetra Vital contains essential vitamins, minerals and trace elements characteristic of the natural habitat. Their content in the aquarium decreases with time, and tap water is not able to compensate for the loss. Thanks to Tetra Vital, you can create an almost identical natural habitat for fish, where they will be provided with comfortable conditions and a brighter color.
- Natural B vitamins are used to increase the vitality of fish and combat stress
- Magnesium provides good health and promotes healthy growth.
- Panthenol cares for fish mucous membranes
- Iodine contributes to the preparation of fish for spawning, as well as successful spawning.
- Vital trace elements help to avoid problems associated with their deficiency
- Promotes the growth of plants and microorganisms
- Suitable for any freshwater aquariums
To enhance the action of Tetra Vital, use Tetra AquaSafe.
Instructions for use. Shake well before use. Add 5 ml of Tetra Vital to 10 liters of aquarium water every 4 weeks. In case of severe stress, it is recommended to double the dose.
Thirdly, the most important trick! This use of live and frozen feed.
Live food is a variety of mosquito larvae, small crustaceans and all kinds of worms that are used in feeding fish. The most popular of them are: bloodworm, artemia, sap, daphnia, tubule, rotifers, gammarus.

Live food is the most useful and natural food for fish, providing them with all the necessary microelements. Such feed is recommended to be used in conjunction with other types of feed and given 2-3 times a week.
The composition of some organisms used as live food Nowadays, especially in megacities and large cities, it is difficult to find high-quality live food for fish. It is also worth noting that, along with live food, it is possible to bring "contagion" into the aquarium - pathogenic bacteria, fungi and viruses. Therefore, you should always be careful with live food, it is better to grow it yourself and rinse thoroughly before serving. Knowing that many aquarists, especially the fair sex, do not like and are even afraid to mess with worms and larvae, I can recommend an interesting and even fascinating way of extracting live food Sera artemia-mix - Ready mix for growing Nauplii Artemia. Nauplii (cubs) of brine shrimp (Artemia) is a great delicacy for fry of all species of fish. Adult fish and many invertebrates also greedily eat nauplii and adult shrimps. Artemia-mix is a ready-to-use product. All you have to do is pour the contents of the bag into 500 ml of water and air it. With this set, even people who have no experience in breeding live food can grow nauplii. The biological value of nauplii becomes even higher, due to the use of sea salt rich in minerals in sera Artemia-mix. Artemia eggs from the great salt lakes of the state of Utah (USA) are used in the sera Artemia-mix - especially high quality.
Here is a detailed video of how to grow nauplii
Well, for those who do not want to mess around with live food at all, there is a ready-made live food freeze. Frost for fishB - it is ready-to-use, frozen and packaged live food. The beauty of it lies in the fact that you do not need to "get", you only need to get a cube of frozen food and throw it into the fish feeder.
+ such feed, manufacturers process it and monitor its purity. The probability to bring "contagion" in the aquarium is small.
- as a result of processing, the beneficial properties of the feed are lost.
Note: Before serving, it is desirable to freeze it to thaw (10-15 min.)
And finally, the fourth trick - the food from our table. Here, look, please, the video posted by our moderator, Esta, about how her cichlids eat a leaf of lettuce.
Charming is not true! Many fish, especially cichlids, respect the greens: lettuce, spinach, scalded cabbage leaves, cucumber, and even carrots. Many people know that keeping African cichlids with live aquarium plants is almost impossible. Nevertheless, they need plant food. And such a leaf of lettuce, once or twice a week, is an excellent way out for tsikhlovykh.
Also, by the example of a user of our site Qper, it is worth highlighting the question of protein mixes made by yourself. For his precious and beloved cichlids, he cooks and gives the following mince once a week:
- BEEF HEART, CLEARED FROM FILM;
- FILET OF TILIP (PANGASIUS);
- SALMARA FILLET;
- SHEETS SALTA;
Here is such an appetizing pate! There are a lot of similar recipes and, if you wish, you can easily find them on the Internet. The main thing is that in this way you can and should feed the fish.
You can make only one important remark about feeding fish like mince - you should try to exclude (minimize) the meat of warm-blooded animals from them. The food system of fish is not able to digest such meat, because of which it can develop pathogenic flora and as a result of the disease. Minced meat containing warm-blooded animals should be given rarely as a delicacy.

How many times and how often to feed the fish?

Based on the fact that feeding fish should be balanced and diverse, it is possible to derive an approximate component of the amount of feed needed for fish.
If we talk about one-time feeding, then any food (dry or live) should be eaten by fish in 3-5 minutes. After this time, the feed should not be in the aquarium, and the more he should not fall for hours at the bottom.
Per day you can feed the fish 1-2 times. I personally feed once, because I think that undernourishment is better than overfeeding. Feeding is preferably carried out either in the morning, after 15 minutes. after turning on the aquarium lighting and in the evening for 3-4 hours before bedtime. If there are “night residents” in the aquarium, as a rule, these are bottom catfish (bag-saber, agamixes, etc.), then for them the food is thrown “at dusk”, i.e. when the light is turned off and all the "day" fish have gone to bed.
How much to feed the fish a week? Here, too, everything is conditional and individual. I offer an example of my feeding scheme:
Monday - dry food 1, once a day;
Tuesday - dry food 2, once a day;
Wednesday - live food, or bloodworm or artemia;
Thursday - dry food 1, twice a day;
Friday - dry food 2, twice a day;
Saturday - live food + duckweed;
Sunday - fasting day;
As you can see, feeding fish is quite diverse. Firstly, various mixtures of dry feed are used, secondly, dry food alternates with live ones, and plant food is given once a week.
And necessarily, once a week, a fasting day is arranged, i.e. when fish are not fed at all. Such a day, you need to arrange necessarily, it is harmless and even very useful for the health of fish and the aquarium as a whole.
Hope the article was helpful for you! Of course, you will not immediately cover all the issues in one article, so we will be glad to talk with you on the forums.

How to feed aquarium fish

In order to understand how many times a day it is necessary to feed aquarium fish, it is necessary to understand the peculiarities of their nutrition in their natural habitat. All types of fish borrowed from their natural ancestors taste preferences and diet. What do all the fish usually eat?

Fish nutrition

  1. Herbivores - these fish have a long digestive system, which indicates the habit of often eating small portions. In their natural habitat, they eat algae, plants, fruits, and seeds.
  2. Carnivores - have a large stomach, so they eat a lot, but not as often as herbivores. In nature, these fish eat dead animals, small fish, insects, invertebrates, birds, amphibians.
  3. Omnivorous - the diet of these fish several times a day, they prefer both vegetable and protein foods.

See how to make vegetable food for aquarium fish.

According to the diet and diet, their aquarium fish need to be given such food that suits them. Typically, domestic fish fed live, frozen, dry, vegetable food, which is sold in stores. It is important that food be varied and rich in healthy vitamins and minerals.

Live food should be given to carnivorous and omnivorous fish. It is a bloodworm, a pipe worker, a daphnia, a coretera, an infusorium, rotifers, and gammarus. They must be stored in the freezer, they quickly deteriorate. Fish fry need to be grown on live food, due to protein, they become resistant to diseases. Also, as a live feed, small fishes are served with veal, minced fish, chicken meat, liver, invertebrate meat, chicken eggs. Vegetable food is necessary for herbivorous and omnivorous fish - these can be vegetables, fruits, algae, plants, cereal porridge.

Once a week, the fish are satisfied with a fasting day, or a mini-hunger strike. It cleans the intestines, eliminates the effects of overeating, helps to heal sick fish. In the natural environment, fish can live without food for a long time, so a one-day hunger strike will not harm them.

About the regime of feeding in captivity

To feed the fish you need so that they do not overeat, and were full of food. Diet depends on the age of the pet and the characteristics of its digestive system. Adults usually eat 2 times a day, which is enough for them. Youngsters aged 1-2 months should eat 4 times a day. And fry up to one month old need to be fed every 3-6 hours. During the spawning period, the fish should be given less food, sometimes not feeding the first few days after breeding. Two weeks before spawning, producers, on the contrary, should correctly produce more live food.

No matter how many fish you keep, you need to give them all the food at the same time. Begin in the morning, an hour after turning on the lights. The last feeding should occur 2 hours before the lighting is turned off. The question of novice aquarists is how much food to give, and how often? Give us enough food so that they can eat it in 5 minutes. Do not feed often, but in small portions, so that they completely swallow them. Unfinished leftovers can be removed with a net to avoid rotting.

Feed pellets depend on the age and size of the fish. Juveniles should eat food that does not exceed the size of their eyes. Dry food in the form of granules, flakes and tablets is recommended to be ground to dust. Adult fish like to grab larger particles of food, they do not eat dust. In order for all the inhabitants of the household water body to be satisfied with feeding, install special feeders for dry and live food in the tank. Of these, food is not frayed, and pets can eat it calmly.

See how to properly feed dry fish aquarium fish.

How to feed the fish

There are general feeding rules for all fish that need to be followed constantly:

  • Properly feed the fish with the food that is right for them, consider the physiological characteristics of all species living in the general aquarium.
  • Do not overfeed your pets - give food not too often, in small portions.
  • For aquarium fish, the best nutrition is a variety of foods.
  • No matter how much food you put in the tank, remove the remnants of it after the meal.
  • The number of meals should correspond to the size and age of the fish.
  • Do not feed the fish immediately after turning on the light, or before bedtime.
  • In the diet of aquarium fish should be natural food, and not just artificial, purchased.

What should get the fish from the feed received

How many times a week should a fish eat, and what portion of nutrients does it need to receive from food? It all depends on individual calculations. Carnivorous and omnivorous fish can be fed according to this scheme:

  • The first day of the week - dry food of the first type (chips or pellets) once a day.
  • The second - dry food of the second type, 1 time per day.
  • The third - live food (for example, artemia or bloodworms), 1 time per day.
  • The fourth - dry food of the first type, 2 times a day.
  • Fifth - dry or vegetable food, 2 times a day.
  • The sixth is live food (the pipe-worker, daphnia) and vegetable food.
  • The seventh - unloading diet.

Feeding in an aquarium can be made differently, and you can make your own scheme. Be sure to alternate between dry, live and vegetable food. If the fish is herbivorous, it should eat only vegetable and dry food (spirulina tablets). Do not forget about the vitamins that should receive a pet for a full life. If you buy food of famous brands, look at the composition, it indicates all the trace elements and vitamins that the fish will receive after eating.

  1. Vitamin A is needed for cell division, in particular in fry and young. Lack of this component can cause growth retardation, curvature of the spine and deformation of the fins, and constant stress.
  2. Vitamin E - plays an important role in the development of the reproductive system.
  3. Vitamin D3 is essential for the development and growth of the skeletal system.
  4. Vitamins of group B (thiamine - B1, riboflavin - B2, cyanocobalamin - B12) are necessary for the normalization of metabolic processes in the body.
  5. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is involved in the formation of bone system and teeth, strengthens the immune system, improves metabolism.
  6. Vitamin H (biotin) - is required for proper cell formation.
  7. Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin, it is required for the synthesis of proteins, provides blood clotting.
  8. Vitamin M (B9, folic acid) - develops the immune system, the circulatory system. Improves scales color.
  9. Vitamin B4 (choline) - required for fish growth, synthesizes the amount of sugar in the blood.

How to feed aquarium fish?

Proper and rational nutrition of fish - a guarantee of health and longevity, not only adults, but also future offspring. Let's talk a little about nutrition, volume and feeding regimes. What feed is better to use, whether it is possible to give pets homemade or still better purchased.

It's no secret that nutrition is one of the most important components of life. From its quality, quantity and composition depends on how long and happy will be the life of an organism. Such arguments are valid for aquarium fish too. If you do not want your small water-loving pets to be stunted and constantly sick, you need to feed them with the right food that suits them. Also, do not forget about the balance of proteins, micro and macronutrients, fats and carbohydrates.

Food in vivo

In order to understand how to feed aquarium fish, you need to know what they eat in their natural habitat. As a rule, for different types of fish it is quite dissimilar products.

So what do fish eat? Consider this question in more detail.

Herbivores have a long digestive tract, which indicates the need for frequent feeding in small portions. The feeding of such fish in the natural environment, as a rule, consists of a variety of algae, plant particles, fruits and seeds.

Carnivorous species have, in turn, a pronounced large stomach, which means they must eat food in large quantities a small number of times. Under natural conditions, they usually feed on live or dead small animals, insects, birds, invertebrates, amphibians.

Omnivores. Even on the basis of their name, it becomes clear that such species prefer any acceptable food.

Which feed is better?

Each species requires a different food, so it is impossible to formulate a diet for all aquarium inhabitants at once. Only a specialist can help you with this.

It is advisable to add to this a small percentage of allowed for this type of natural products, such as fruits.

Live food is necessary for carnivorous and omnivorous fish, especially during the spawning period. To it can be attributed, for example, moth, pipemaker, daphnia, ciliates. Store such food in the freezer refrigerator. But the main thing is not to keep it for too long. There is a time for everything.

Fry raised on animal feed are more active in behavior and most resistant to diseases. The younger generation can be fed with yogurt. It contains the necessary bacteria and vitamins.

As a living food, you can use minced fish, poultry, liver, invertebrates, eggs. And from plant foods algae, vegetables, fruits, cereals are perfect.

Hunger for body benefits

Approximately 1 time a week, the fish need to organize a preventive hunger strike. This will help cleanse their intestines. Especially it is not necessary to burden the food of sick individuals, it will slow down the healing process. It is better to hold them for 2 days without food, do not worry, they will not die of hunger. In natural conditions, they are not able to eat for very long.

Feeding mode

The feeding regime, as a rule, directly depends on the age of the fish. Adults have enough 2 meals a day. This completely covers their needs. At the same time, the fry from 1 to 2 months are fed 4 times a day. Up to 1 month - every 3-4 hours, young fry - every 6 hours.

During spawning, fish-producers are cut back on food, not feeding the first couple of days, and after giving significantly less food than during normal times.

Feeding time should be no more than 5 minutes. This gap is enough to fish ate. After that, it is necessary to remove the remains, otherwise they will begin to rot and spoil the entire internal environment of the aquarium.

It is very important to remember that the size of food particles for different age groups is also different.

For very young fish, it should not exceed the size of the eye, otherwise the fry simply will not be able to eat it and will always remain hungry. Therefore, large dry food need to fray fingers in fine dust. You can buy ready-ground powdered fry food.

At the same time, adults are not enthusiastic about eating crumbs at all, so they need more impressive pieces.

To ensure that all residents of the aquarium will be satisfied, you can resort to using special feeders (for live and dry food). Such troughs are attached to the aquarium and they are already feeding there directly. So the food does not spread across the entire surface of the aquarium, and the fish can safely eat it.

Feeding rules

Much has already been said about feeding rules. However, it is necessary to combine them into one section for the convenience of readers.

Basic feeding rules:

  • feed the appropriate food for this type of fish;
  • do not overfeed;
  • give a variety of products;
  • clean up the rest of the feed net;
  • the number of feedings should be commensurate with age;
  • do not feed at bedtime;
  • The presence of natural food in the diet is required.

When starting any living creature at home, it is important to always remember that it is not only joy, but also a great responsibility. Without proper care, any living thing will not live long. Not an exception and fish. Therefore, watching your diet, do not forget about little friends. And then they will delight you with their beauty and playful mood for a very long time.

Video from professional aquarists about proper feeding of fish:

How to feed the fish in the aquarium?

Thinking about what pets to have, many opt for aquarium fish. Indeed, just admiring their colorful colors and smooth forms can forget about anxiety and depression.

However, the apparent simplicity of fish care is actually deceptive. They, like any creature, need a comfortable habitat, constant care and proper nutrition.

How to feed the fish in the aquarium?

Feeding the fish in an aquarium should fully satisfy their needs, not exceeding the latter. So, for mature fish, one meal is enough. And even in your absence, they steadfastly hold out for several days on a starvation diet. Another thing, if you brought fry. Their young and growing organisms require more intensive nutrition, so in this case, preferably two meals a day.

It is advisable simultaneously with the acquisition of fish to understand how much they need food and how to feed the fish in the aquarium fully, but not to overfeed. The main rule - the feed should be absorbed in 5-10 minutes. All the rest is brute force for your pets stomach and water pollution in the aquarium. On average, the amount of feed per day is up to 3% by weight of the fish. Estimate the weight of the inhabitants of the aquarium, and thus determine the amount of necessary food for them.

Distribute food is evenly over the entire area of the aquarium, and not throw in one place. So you prevent the accumulation of fish and their struggle for food.

It is important to consider the feeding habits of different types of fish. Depending on whether they are carnivorous, herbivorous, or omnivorous, shape the ration accordingly.

It should be noted that the correctness of feeding the fish in an aquarium depends not only on the frequency and size of the portion, but also largely on the characteristics of the food.

Aquarium fish nutrition

For the health and longevity of aquarium fish is important a diverse and high-quality food. Many breeders mistakenly believe that falling asleep every day the same set of nutritional components, the fish are saturated with him and feel good. This is a misconception and a direct path to the diseases and unexpected deaths of your pets. It is very useful to understand the features of different food for aquarium fish.

Dry food

This is the most common type of feed. Its convenience consists in simplicity of use and various structure which can be picked up for each type of fish. Also a positive point in dry food is its different consistency - from small grains for fry to large pellets for adult predators.

Live food

This delicacy for all representatives of the aquarium. These are bloodworms, worms, insects and other living organisms that are consumed by fish. Also this category includes small fish, which acts as food for predators. It is necessary to monitor the quality of such food, so as not to poison the pets with stale food and not to infect with a disease that a representative of the live food could suffer.

Frozen feed

It is nothing like frozen live food. You can buy it, and you can make it yourself and store it in the freezer. Do not forget to bring the food to the temperature of the water in the aquarium before feeding.

Vegetables

This type of food is suitable for herbivores. It is not difficult to cook it - you need to chop the vegetables or greens you have and boil it with boiling water or boil it. Such food is better placed in the feeder, and not scatter around the aquarium.

In addition to these feeds, fish are not averse to feast on all sorts of algae and even wood. But it is better to discuss this kind of food together with the consultant of the store where you buy fish.

Feeding fish

How the fish will be fed, at what time and what kind of food, depends on many factors: their breed, size, habitat, volume of the aquarium. Having correctly selected their diet once, you will not have problems with their nutrition in the future.

What to feed the fish?

Fish Feed

In their natural environment, fish feed on their own. In captivity, their diet will depend entirely on the decision of the owner. When you purchase them in a store, the nursing duties are shifted from the seller to you. This means that you need to master the rules of feeding fish, as well as the features of this process. To begin with, it will not hurt to decide what your pets prefer and what will be safe for them.

Most people, when choosing, are guided only by the consultation of the sellers in the pet store. But often they themselves have no idea what are the features in feeding aquarium fish. However, they can not refuse to consult you! The result is pitiable. It is better to search the information yourself.

Fish as a food are conventionally divided into the following types:

  • Predators: feeding fish of a given species requires the presence of smaller fish as food.
  • Feeding on vegetation.
  • With mixed meals.
  • Most eat small invertebrates.

Each variety has its own types of store food, often about who the food is suitable for, can be found on the label. When buying dry food, note how it was dried. The best option is freeze drying. It can be called differently, but the essence can be understood by name. With other types of drying, a huge portion of nutrients can be squandered, and feeding aquarium fish with such food can be useless and sometimes harmful to their health.

In nature, for each species there is not always a suitable environment with appropriate nutrition. Then they are forced to use what is, to replace the usual food. Sometimes they adapt to other types of food. But at home feeding fish is best done without experiments.

If several species live in your aquarium at once, be prepared to buy different feeds. In this case, you can feed everyone together - they choose for themselves what they need. It happens that during the feeding of fish in such conditions, the majority are satisfied with the food, and some one species is clearly “on a diet”. In this case, either change the feed, or add another one of its kind. The fact is that when feeding fish, they, unlike a person, feel they need or don't need food, is useful for them or useless.

Features

There are nuances for each type of feed. If you use living invertebrates, before giving them to the fish, put them in a net and rinse under running water at room temperature, and only after that start feeding the fish.

The smaller the fish, the smaller should be their food. The opposite is not always true - large breeds and adult fish can eat fine food normally. If you notice that your aquarium pets "spit out" food without chewing it, then it is either not tasty for them, or too large.

A few more rules for feeding fish:

  • You need to feed several times a day, giving small portions. If you give rarely and in large quantities, the remains will lie on the bottom, and the water - to bloom. It is better to use feeders - it's easier to remove leftovers.
  • Periodically change food to make food more varied.
  • If the feed is dry, it should not be stained or stuck together.
  • If it is frozen, feeding your aquarium fish should occur immediately after it has thawed out (it has thawed).
  • If you are buying live invertebrates, make sure your purchase is active and not dying.
  • Also, in order to increase the sexual activity of fish, it is advised to use a mini-hunger strike - no more than one day.

In most cases, the most difficult is not feeding the fish in the aquarium itself, but feeding the fry. During such a period, be most attentive to them: it is very good if they have live food. This may be the larvae of the lower crustaceans, ciliates, rotifers and other similar creatures. When the fry grow up a little, you can transfer them to the larvae of Artemia, copepods or branchy crustaceans. The same give fry viviparous fish. At first, live food is cut, later given whole; Be guided by the size of the fish and watch them.

Aquarium water temperature

In addition to the characteristics of feeding fish, the temperature of the water in the aquarium is also important for their health. The level at which it is maintained depends on the species inhabiting it.

  • "Average" temperature, which most fish can be satisfied with, but not all - 22-260 C.
  • Goldfish prefer the water to be cooler - 18-230 C.
  • Labyrinth fish, on the contrary, like to bask, and for them should be maintained 28-310 C.

Purchasing a thermometer for an aquarium is just as important as following the rules for feeding fish. Watch the temperature - it should not deviate more than 2-3 degrees.

Dangerous changes in temperature (for example, in winter with an open window) and permanent presence in colder or warmer water than necessary are dangerous. The consequences of a constant “wrong” temperature may not manifest themselves for several months, but then the fish will start to hurt. With a cold snap, they, like us, can catch a cold or catch an infection, even a lethal outcome. And in warm water there is less oxygen, and they can hurt from this, be lethargic.

To regulate heat, purchase a heating pad with a thermostat for aquariums. With the help of it and a thermometer, you can maintain the temperature at the right level. Compliance with the rules of feeding fish and tracking the state of the water will help you in their maintenance.

What and how many times a day to feed the goldfish

When you put up such wonderful pets like goldfish in your home aquarium, the question immediately arises: "How and what to feed these cute creatures?". In fact, feeding the fish in the aquarium is not difficult. First, it is an omnivorous species of fish, and secondly, when pets get used to the owner, they can be given food with their own hands.

Rules for feeding natural foods

Natural food is a food of natural origin (insect larvae, plankton, benthos, plants and algae, mollusks and crustaceans). All food submitted to the fish should be of small size so that it can be captured by mouth. Fry and juvenile fish should more often eat live and dry food to be able to grow beautiful and healthy. Before spawning, males and females are also given live food with protein, which serves as an additional stimulation to spawn.

Take a look at feeding goldfish with worms.

Adult goldfish love vegetable food more. Consider that it is better to feed young animals with daphnia, bloodworm, pipe worker, coretre, pieces of squid, dry sami. By the way, adult fish should also receive this food, but in smaller quantities. Food for adults is easy to cook with your own hands and at home. Take a kitchen grater, and rub cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, and pumpkin on a shallow surface. You can freeze it in the freezer, and defrost it later (only once!), And give it to pets.

Pet stores sell dried food with fiber, which is intended only for goldfish. This feed is very useful for digestion. They can also be fed with aquatic plants - duckweed, wolfia, and robeberry. They can be grown at home specifically as a feed for your pet. Or, plant these plants in an aquarium with goldfish, and if there is a shortage of food, they will feed on their juicy leaves. Ryaska need to feed the fish only once a day, so make sure that there is no overfeeding.

If you are going on vacation, and no one to leave the fish - then plants with soft leaves (including Lemna) will be an excellent food for starving pets. Gold fish will be enough for one week, they are unlikely to lose weight, but do not overdo it with a vacation. Consider the moment that they remember the owner, and the long absence of a person can also cause stress.

Now about the products from our fridge that are suitable for feeding. Cereals such as semolina, buckwheat, peas, millet are not alien to these fish. They must be salt free and boiled in water. All kinds of goldfish adore peas - peel them off, boil them, chop them in a blender and serve in small portions. It has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract. These types of dressings can be served if the home has run out of fish food, or for a more varied diet. Semolina must be washed, non-sticky texture, otherwise the fish will not be able to eat it.

As well as food for this fish fit spinach leaves, nettle, lettuce, dandelion, dill or parsley. Surprisingly, this pet is practically everything that people are used to, which is why it is so popular with novice aquarists! Do not forget that these fish - avid eaters are prone to overeating. Feed them 2 times a day, in small portions that they can master in 5 minutes. Give animal and live food once a day, and the rest of the time - vegetable food.

You can alternate types of feed, and make a menu: give several times a week live food (30% of the diet), and 70% - vegetable. After the meal, the fish leave behind a lot of waste in the form of feces. This means that the aquarium should be cleaned on time: the bottom siphon and water filtration. Once a week, update 25% of the water for fresh and clean, so that food remains do not decompose, polluting everything around.

See how goldfish eat a leaf of lettuce.

Branded fish food

In addition to natural food, goldfish can be fed and branded feed. Manufacturers offer a variety of supplements containing vitamins, minerals, fiber, larvae and other nutrients. Branded food helps to give the fish a brighter color scales, they are harmless in acceptable quantities. Давать в пищу фирменные корма лучше 1-2 раза в неделю, хотя некоторые виды можно и чаще. Все они представлены в виде чипсов, гранул, палочек.

How, what and how much to feed Goldfish?

FEEDING GOLDEN FISHES

AS? WHAT AND HOW MUCH?

Goldfish - extremely playful, cheerful and voracious creatures. They quickly get used to the person of their breadwinner, and as they approach the aquarium, they jump out of the water like piranhas with hungry eyes. This behavior of your waterfowl pets can be repeated 10 times a day, but this does not mean that the goldfish are hungry all this time. This is just a conditioned reflex. It is necessary to feed your pets 1-2 times a day with one pinch of dry food. This is quite enough for their normal growth and development. If you feed more often, the fish will behave very sluggish, in addition their life expectancy will be reduced.

Despite the fact that the process of feeding goldfish can bring you a lot of pleasure - do not abuse it. In fish, there is no sense of saturation. Do not forget about it. So do not overdo it. And your pets will long please your eyes and soothe raging thoughts.
And now from the lyrics, to the point!

Goldfish need a balanced diet. Their diet should include both live food - bloodworm, artemia, daphnia, rotifers and other food: dry and especially vegetable.

If we talk about proportions, then in my opinion for goldfish, this proportion looks like 40% live, dry and 60% vegetable food.

Live food, adore all the fish and gold is no exception. When keeping Zolotuh in an aquarium, it is better to use frozen live food, as they are safer than full-scale.

Dry feed - a universal remedy for feeding any fish. Manufacturers of aquarium feed took care of the usefulness of the diet. Therefore, if you wake up to feed goldfish only with such food, then this will be quite enough for their well-being. But if you want to feed your goldfish to be elite))). It is necessary to introduce vegetable feed and only natural.

How is this achieved ?! Yes, very simple. You need to breed Leopard or RicciaWell, it is very golden love this aquarium vegetation.

Here, please see how much duckweed grows in my week in an aquarium with scalars. All she goes to feed goldfish.
Economical and non-GMO!

As it is known, duckweed and riccia grow very quickly and do not require special conditions for maintenance. For a week you will grow it on a scale sufficient for goldfish to feed. It should be diluted in a separate aquarium and transferred to scrofula 2-a - 3 times a week. That's all you need.

It is necessary to distinguish the feeding of goldfish in the aquarium and in the pond.

For feeding goldfish in a pond, it is recommended to use meat chips mixed with bread, as well as hard boiled cereals: buckwheat, oatmeal, millet, etc. The pond must be with vegetation !!!

If anyone is interested in this question, I recommend you to talk with our user "Muri", she is a noble ruler of goldfish in the pond!

I feed my goldfish with the following formula:

Resurrection - live food, Monday - Wednesday is dry and substitutes, Thursday - duckweed, Friday - Saturday - dry and duckweed.

On such a feed my scrofulous - fat and fluffy !!! :)

How often and how much to feed aquarium fish?

Anyone who has at least a little experience in breeding aquarium fish knows perfectly how important the proper feeding of fish is. And this is not always easy - because each breed needs certain feed.

One needs a lot of protein, others need a large amount of carbohydrates. It depends on many factors - the size of the fish, its origin and lifestyle. So, sometimes it is not easy to find exactly the kind of food that will benefit your pets.

Of course, it is worth knowing not only what, but also how much fish should be fed in order not to harm them. And again it depends on the needs of the fish.

Remember: large and mobile fish need a lot of feed.

For example, a small barbus burns so much energy, flying from one corner of the aquarium to another, that it needs to consume much more food than the roosters, the larger fish, who lead a very calm and unhurried life. But in any case, it is enough to give the fish as much food as they can eat in five to seven minutes. Later, they no longer eat with such appetite, and some of the food is at the bottom, where it rots and spoils the water.

To distribute the food between the fish equally, it is desirable to teach the fish to gather at a certain time or by a signal near the feeder. Then it does not happen that some fish will eat two servings, while others will remain hungry.

It should determine in advance how often you will feed the aquarium fish. The best solution for adult fish is two feed feeds per day - in the morning and in the evening. When feeding, do not forget to easily snap your fingernail on the glass near the feeder - the fish will get used to the fact that such a signal portends dinner, and they will immediately float away.

But if you grow young, two feedings per day is not enough. To fry turned into large and beautiful adult fish, it will be better to feed them four to five times a day. Of course, you do not need to give too much food so that it will not be wasted.

What eat cockerel aquarium fish

One of the current issues of aquarists who are going to buy a pet Betta splendens, is how to feed the cockerel fish. Many newcomers do not know what kind of food will suit them, what should be the portions. Malnutrition for fish is not as scary as overeating. Cockerels in the wild - omnivorous fish that prefer to catch insects from the surface of the water, there is benthos and small crustaceans. They are not averse to plucking aquatic plants, such as Javanese moss. Traditionally they are fed with flakes and granules, which are produced by feed manufacturers. But is this feeding right? This should be sorted out.

Cock feeding guidelines

  1. How much food to give a cock?

Let the rooster as much food as he eat in 2 minutes. Pour 4-6 pellets of food on the surface of the water, and see how quickly he can cope with them. If the fish will not take this food, or spit it out, this is not a good sign. Either the feed did not fit, or the fish didn’t get used to it, or it got sick. If she does not eat the feed, it will sink to the bottom of the tank, where it will decompose, releasing ammonia. This substance will cause a deterioration in the health of the fish, will create an extremely unhealthy biological environment. In case of untimely cleaning of the aquarium, improper replacement of water, it will be difficult to maintain the health of the pet.

In addition, if your rooster goes beyond eating for 2 minutes, he will get used to such feeding. It turns out, the fish will begin to overeat. After examining the abdomen, and noticing a significant bulge on it (in the area of the ventral fins), know that the fish is overweight.

  1. How often to feed Betta fish cockerel?

Young males, which are purchased in stores, need to be fed in small portions 1-2 times a day. Aquarium fish do not need to feed often, it is better to feed a little, and add food if they themselves ask. During the spawning period, fish are fed 2 times a day, fry betta cockerels also, 2 times a day.

For these fish it is useful to arrange fasting days, skipping meals. The digestive system will have a “break” to restore, which will allow the body to get rid of accumulated toxins. Good to miss one day of eating. You can choose Sunday, when many will be at home, doing their own thing. On weekdays, feeding must be resumed.

What to feed the rooster?

Despite the fact that betta betus are omnivorous creatures, but they lead a predatory life. Remember their nickname "Siamese fighting fish"? They will attack, bite, and eat another fish that is a potential threat to them. This means that protein food is an advantage for them.

Look at the feeding of the cockerel worms (grindal worms).

Food that should be in the diet of the fighting cockerel alternately:

  1. Flakes for fish - you can give a cockerel not very often, they are inexpensive. If the cock refuses him - continue to give him a bloodworm.
  2. Cockerel granules - specially developed feed for Betta splendens. They are sold in pet stores, and are almost a daily feed for roosters. But some pellets are too large for small fish, they drown too quickly, and are perceived as waste.
  3. Dry food - in most pet stores they are, it can be processed bloodworms and artemia. Chickens appreciate such food!

  1. Frozen products - if you have the opportunity to catch or buy from a supplier of live moths, Artemia, a pipe worker in small batches, you can freeze them yourself in the freezer. This is not such an expensive pleasure, and, what is important, they love “freezing” very much. It is important not to thaw and freeze the feed again, otherwise it will lose its quality and will be unsuitable.
  2. Live food - as mentioned earlier, if you have the opportunity to buy or catch live moth or artemia, they are suitable as food. But there is a remark about such a feeding: worms can reach an infection in the aquarium directly from the pond. If you have a question, why did the fish get sick - maybe the reason for the infected feed? Do not risk with it, better freeze the worms.

See how a cockerel fish eats boiled cabbage.

Summing up the above, the fighting cockerel feeding is possible with the feed of such feed:

  • Frozen or live bloodworm;
  • Frozen or live artemia;
  • Frozen or live daphnia;
  • Frozen vitreous worms (if available);
