Fish that clean the aquarium

Aquarium attendants - fish, shrimps, snails, fighting algae

A clean and well-kept aquarium is not only beauty, but also a guarantee of a long and healthy life for its inhabitants. But sometimes, contrary to the efforts of the owner and even the work of high-tech equipment, home pond is covered from the inside with brown or dark green bloom, brushes, fringe or threads. This is algae. If this problem overtook you, then do not rush to grab at once for chemicals. Try to accommodate algae, for which eating such a "garbage" - is one of the natural physiological processes. For information on what the orderlies aquarium known and against which algae they are most effective, read our article.

Algae fighting fish

Most often in aquariums lovers are found these "workers of cleanliness"

Especially good "cleaners" are considered

  • pterigoplicht (brocade catfish),
  • Ancistrus ordinary,
  • and otozinclus (dwarf catfish), preferring diatoms.

With their suction cup, they thoroughly clean everything (bacterial film, algae fouling, other organic pollutants), starting from the walls of the aquarium, soil, stones and ending with snags and large leaves of plants. At the same time, they themselves are rather unpretentious, which is a definite plus.

Of the minuses is to cancel the large size and the bad nature of some of the catfish.
  • For example, an adult pterigoplicht can grow up to 40-45 cm and begin to behave aggressively towards other inhabitants.
  • Sometimes somas, overly keen on cleaning, damage young tender tops of plants or make holes in young leaves.
  • And some individuals with age begin to be lazy and poorly perform their "duties".

Dwarf catfish - seaweed from the family of chain catfish best of all cope with brown diatoms. A flock of five fish can easily keep a clean tank of 100 liters. The "dwarf" is unpretentious, peaceful, able to get along even with large predators.

The amphibious catfish corridor is also quite good in terms of harvesting, only it is very disturbed by the water and inclined to devour other fish.

But the "janitor", which can be found less often, but this does not make it worse: Panak royal, belonging to the family of chainmail catfish. Large fish, which will need a 200-liter (not less) aquarium. Young individuals are calm, but with age their character deteriorates noticeably. Perfectly get on with peaceful haratsinovye. Best of all, Panak cleans snags.

This family combines only three types of fish, the most popular of which are the girinoheylus.

Their lips look like a sucker with folds on the inside. These bends form a sort of "grater".

Thanks to this design, fish can be kept on stones even with a strong current, while at the same time scraping off algae from their surface.

This food is not very nutritious, so it is necessary to scrub girinoheylus very much.

All filamentous algae, such as filament and black beard, they can not eat.

Negative points include

  • damage to the leaves, which after the "cleaning" may remain grooves and holes;
  • A small number of fish is not enough to maintain cleanliness in the aquarium;
  • in large numbers, they are aggressive and constantly attack their own kind, as they are territorial.

It is very difficult to achieve peace among them. Neighbors should also be selected carefully, it is absolutely impossible to take sluggish fish. Girinoheylusy take them for non-living objects, can "clean" and greatly damage the scales.

Very many of them have a well-developed lower jaw, which resembles a scraper, which easily removes plaque from walls, soil and plants.

The most popular vivipars are guppies, mollies, petilles, and swordsmen. Some breeders claim that these fish can survive even without additional feed, eating only green fiber.

The disadvantages of this group include the fact that they need to be kept in a large flock (at least 10 pieces), but even in such quantities they will not provide complete order in the aquarium. They are good only as assistants to other algae.

In addition, these fish are not very spectacular, and for beautiful ones there may simply not be enough space in the aquarium. And closeness, as we know, will lead to conflicts.

The most tireless fighter against algae from this family is the Siamese seaweed (he is crosshale, Siamese, or crossochelius, Siamese, or Siamese epalceorinch).

His seahorse is green algae and the so-called "Vietnamese" or "black beard" (these are growths in the form of dark tassels on stones, leaves of plants and other places).

It also copes well with other algae in the form of a gun, since its mouth is most suitable for this. For a 100-liter aquarium to be perfectly clean, it’s enough to have just two (even the smallest) Siamese sea-eaters.

The advantages of these fish are also activity, mobility, a rather peaceful disposition, a small amount of vessels for a normal existence and modest care.

Not without flaws. After the length of the fish will be more than 4 centimeters, they can begin to eat Javanese moss, if that grows in the aquarium, and much more willing than algae.

The way out of this situation is to plant larger mosses, such as fissidens.

Another pair of sweepers from this family is Labe two-color (bicolor) and green (Frenatus). Their mouthparts are facing down. Algae and fouling they, of course, eat, but not as good as the previous ones. It is rather their hobby, so to speak. Their big minus is increased aggression and territoriality in relation to both other fish and their own kind.

Seaweed Shrimp

These arthropods are deservedly called champions of purity. Freshwater shrimps are especially good, their bodies are equipped with special “fans”.

These outgrowths filter the water and extract uneaten food, feces, plant particles and what is left of the dead inhabitants. Males loosen the ground and filter the dregs, which at the same time rose. Females remove dirt from the bottom surface.

In addition to filtering water, these creatures remove fleecy algae from the leaves of plants and all other surfaces, and much more successfully than fish.

The reason is simple - shrimp, especially cherry, can sneak into the smallest nooks and corners of the aquarium.

Negative points:

  • a small shrimp can handle only a small amount of work;
  • so that the aquarium is really clean, it will take a lot of shrimp (one individual per liter);
  • they are very defenseless and can be eaten by fish, as a result of which neighbors should be chosen very carefully, plus a lot of reliable shelters should be created.

In addition to cherry, not bad are struggling with algae shrimp amano. Perfectly keep clean Kladorf balls, eat thread.

Important! The effectiveness of the "work" is affected by their size. The larger the shrimp, the tighter the strings of algae it can eat. Four centimeter arthropods are considered the best.

Enough 5 such pieces per 200 liters. Three centimeters will need 1 individual for every 10 liters of water. Small need more (1-2 for each liter). The last option is the most unproductive and most expensive. It is also worth noting that these shrimps do not eat xenococcus and other green algae in the form of bloom. Black beard is also used reluctantly.

Another view is the neocaridins. They are most common among amateurs, as they are very easy to breed. They are small, only 1-2 cm in length, so many "combat units" will be required (one individual per liter). Preference is given to soft filamentous algae of the Rhizoclinium type. Neocaridins are the best choice for plant aquariums. They are irreplaceable in the newly launched aquarium, as they help to establish balance. In the mature balance is maintained.

Algae-fighting snails

Although mollusks are not so successful in the role of orderlies, their strength is the ability to consume almost all the pollution (remaining food, excrement of living and the remains of dead inhabitants, rotted plants, mucus and deposits on all surfaces, a film from the surface of the water).

And the well-being and behavior of some species is a kind of indicator of the purity of the soil and water.

The bad thing is that the number of snails is almost impossible to control, and they multiply very quickly.

Then their large army begins to "harm" by eating the plants and pouring everything around them with their slime.

Here are some snail cleaners most often found in home aquariums:

Neretina Zebra (tiger snail), neretina hedgehog, neretina black ear. They remove plaque from glasses, stones, snags, decor, and large leaves without damaging them. It seems that they never get tired. The minus is left on the aquarium glass unaesthetic caviar clutches.

Neretina horned. This baby (1-1.5 cm) is able to crawl into the most inaccessible places and clean them to shine. Copes with diatoms.

Septaria or snail-turtle with a flat shell. It is very slow, but despite this it copes well with algal fouling and Vietnamese. Plants do not hurt. The lack of characteristic - caviar, hung on the scenery.

Corbicula. This is a three centimeter snail. It is also called yellow Javanese sharovka or gold double leaflet. Helps to cope with turbidity of water, suspension and flowering, as it is a filter. This means that the mollusk passes water through itself (up to 5 liters per hour!), Eating the microorganisms contained in it. Interestingly, in carbicula aquariums, fish do not suffer from ichthyophorosis, as they somehow retain their cysts. On an aquarium of 100 l it is necessary from 1 to 3 such snails. The negative aspects include plowing up the soil and digging up plants with weak roots.

Ampullary. Quite a large lungfish. Picks up the remnants of food, dead fish and other snails, actively eats fouling from the walls of the aquarium.

Helenacalled a snail killer. This miniature predator is considered to be a scavenger. However, it is able to eat not only a forgotten piece of food or a dead fish, but also a quite lively small shrimp or snail (for example, a reel or melee).

Theodoxus. These are small beautiful freshwater snails. There are several types. Can live in both freshwater and salt home water bodies. They feed only on fouling, preferring brown and green algae. They even compete with the guerrhoehyluses for primacy in the effectiveness of the struggle against the xenocus focus. But the "beard" do not like. Plants do not spoil.

In conclusion, we say that the aquarium biosystem can successfully exist only with the help of humans. Proper selection and adjustment of equipment and lighting, proper start-up of an aquarium, and regular monitoring of water parameters and the condition of inhabitants are very important. Fish, shrimps and snails are helpers in solving the problem of algae control, not the main characters. Of course, here we only briefly described only some of the representatives of aquarium nurses, since in one article it is impossible to tell about all the details. We will be grateful for interesting additions.

How to clean the aquarium

General cleaning in the aquarium need to do depending on the type of fish. For some, the best option is a one-time monthly cleaning, for others - weekly. Remember that fish do not like to be disturbed, changing their habitat, even for a short time. General cleaning is always a stress for any kind of fish. That is why during cleaning do not frighten your fish with sharp movements. Planning to make changes in the aquarium, replace the plants? Then it is better to combine this procedure with cleaning and cleaning. Remember: the use of all sorts of chemical cleaners in the aquarium is strictly prohibited! In specialty stores you can buy a special siphon for cleaning the aquarium. You can also use the materials available at home. The walls of the aquarium should be cleaned with a scraper, washcloth, kitchen sponge. After all, they are constantly settled by microorganisms that impede visibility and create an untidy, sloppy look to the aquarium. After cleaning the glasses, you can proceed to cleaning the bottom of your aquarium. The soil must be cleaned from the remnants of food and fish excrement. All this accumulates below. But how do you know that you need such a cleaning? Take a stick and shake the soil, stir it. If bubbles begin to rise from the bottom, then cleaning is necessary. This procedure will facilitate your special soil cleaner. This is a flexible hose with a glass or metal tip, which should be led along the bottom, pressing it deep into. Through the tip will drain water with dirt. It is important to control the amount of drained water. The volume of this water should not exceed one fifth of the total water volume of the aquarium. This amount of water you need then add to the tank. It should be carefully with the roots of plants when cleaning, do not damage them. After all, the main thing in cleaning is the preservation of all life and the support of the natural habitat. Water purification helps to refresh the aquarium and remove accumulated harmful substances. In order to alleviate the stress of the fish due to the replacement of water, it is necessary to replace it partially. This should be done once every 2 weeks. Water for this purpose should be defended within a few days. Is your tank not covered on top? Then a film may appear on the surface of the water. You can fix it with a sheet of paper, the size of which is equal to the size of the aquarium. This sheet must be held by the edges, dipped in water and slowly lifted along with a harmful film. If necessary, the procedure is done several times. When general cleaning of the aquarium should not forget about the filter for cleaning. Usually its elements are made of foam rubber. Therefore, for their thorough cleaning you just need to rinse them under a strong stream of water. The filter mechanism is usually cleaned with a simple toothbrush. General cleaning of the aquarium, its competent cleaning will prolong the life of your floating pets, will support the normal level of the aquatic environment. After all, cleanliness, order are necessary for all living beings. Support them, monitor, watch for changes. And then your healthy pets will delight the eye with their active movements!

Step-by-step cleaning of the aquarium at home: instructions

1. Clean the aquarium siphon.

Properly cleaning the aquarium with a siphon is not so difficult, it is enough to do it once, and then you can do it with your eyes closed. Aquarium siphons are of different designs, but regardless of them, the siphon of the bottom of the aquarium will always be built on the same principles.

With this procedure, you must begin the procedure of cleaning any aquarium with fish. You should siphon both the surface of the soil and a little bit from the bottom. As a rule, the main waste is accumulated on the surface. It is necessary to remove the volume that you are going to fill back in the form of separated water. Calculate this amount is not difficult, the main thing is not to forget to do it, but if you have water with a reserve, then you have nothing to worry about.

2. Clean the glass.

In fact, we want to say from our own experience - there are most problems with glasses, simply because cleaning them is too lazy ... This is the hardest work - you have to work with a scraper, go through all the growths. If you do not do this when the first growths appear, then in the future it will be very difficult to cope with them, and even more so, not a single cleaner fish can cope with months-long growths.

3. Cleaning the filter.

Cleaning the filter is third on the list, because for this we need water from the aquarium so that we can wash the filter parts and rinse the sponges in it. It is better if it is the water that you drain off last, so that it contains as little turbidity and sediment as possible. After washing the filter in this water, you collect it and put it back.

4. Fill the separated water in the aquarium.

When all the so-called dirty work on the proper cleaning of the aquarium with fish is done, we have only a little left - to fill in clean water. This should be the water that you defended during the week in a special container. Only after the water is poured, you can turn on the filter, as well as lighting.

5. Add vitamins.

Also, if required, you can add any vitamins for fish to the aquarium. It can also be a means for water, as well as algae control. In general, such means are better to be poured either with the new separated water, so that they immediately spread throughout the entire volume, or to fill them in the area where the water is released from the filter.

Tips for proper cleaning:

  1. Be sure to schedule time in advance when cleaning is needed. Do it the day before, so as not to postpone for the last moment.
But it all depends on the pollution of the aquarium, filter power, etc.
  4. Try to move the siphon in the aquarium without sudden movements. This should be done in order not to frighten the fish once again, especially if these fish are large and shy.
  5. Do not siphon deep soil, which is located close to large plants. This soil contains plant nutrients (of course, if dirt comes through the stones, then you need to siphon even there, in the depths). In addition, once again you should not disturb the root system of plants, because for them it is stressful - the plants do not like transplants and movements in the aquarium.

    There are types of fish that not only delight the eye with its bright color and peace-loving disposition, but also bring undoubted benefits - it is an aquarium cleaner. These include swordtails, guppies, mollies and squares. They have a special structure of the mouth - a developed lower jaw resembles a scraper, with which the fish can remove plaque from the walls or bottom of the aquarium, as well as clean the leaves of plants.

    Both the ancistrus and the shellfish catfish are very interesting - their mouth apparatus is very similar to the sucker, with its help these creatures can move along the walls of the aquarium. In addition, organic plaque taken from the glass walls is part of their diet. These types of fish will become real assistants in cleaning the aquarium and greatly facilitate this procedure.

    Means for cleaning.

    Not all detergents and cleaners can be used in cleaning the aquarium. There are even some types of chemistry that are not recommended to use. Cleaning devices are very simple, there are not many of them. There are only a few items that are needed without fail.

    Be sure to need a scraper to properly clean the glass aquarium. There are two types of it: on a magnet and with a long handle. The first option is specifically designed for aquariums. It is so designed that you simply drop it into the water, and control its movements on the other side of the glass. That is, do not even have to wring hands in the water.

    The second thing you need is a straw (siphon) with which the soil is cleaned at the bottom of the aquarium. It is inexpensive. In addition, you can make it yourself in the presence of a small piece of hose.

    And the last important device is a water purifying filter. Its plus is that it works all the time. That is, the water is filtered non-stop. The process of its cleaning is constantly going on. Moreover, the filter absorbs and retains foreign particles. Consequently, both the soil and the walls of the aquarium become less quickly contaminated. Also, the filter protects plants from unwanted plaque.

How to wash the aquarium with fish

Taking care of the fish in the aquarium, from time to time you have to face the problem - how to clean the aquarium at home. Regardless of whether it is large or small, an accumulation of algae and organic matter accumulates on its walls, and the water becomes cloudy. To do the right cleaning, you must comply with a number of requirements so that the life of the fish at this time was safe.

Aquarium after the "launch"

The first months after the "launch" of the aquarium, it is necessary to monitor the state of its cleanliness, removing the remnants of rotten food and decorations. Once a week it is necessary to replace the water with pure and infused water, but not completely. If the aquarium lives correctly, then biological balance will be established in it, the water will become transparent with a yellowish tinge. When this happens, you can do the first cleaning.

What you need

The first thing to do is to collect materials for cleaning the aquarium. To make it shine clean, you should prepare:

  • Clean bucket or large bowl;
  • Algae scraper;
  • Siphon with hose and vacuum gravel.

Before starting work, you need to prepare a new water. Replacement will require removal of stagnant water from the tank (20-30% of the total volume). If you keep sea fish, prepare the correct proportions of sea salt for water. Make sure that the new water is free from chlorine, organic matter and other harmful impurities. An important rule is that water is considered infused if chlorine has eroded from it for several days. Other indicators of water (hardness, alkalinity, acidity) can be checked with a litmus indicator, the temperature of the water - with a specially designed thermometer. Usually, the water is infused for 48 hours, then it can be considered free from minerals contained in tap water. 2 hours before washing and 2 hours after it, it is undesirable to give fish food.

Use a new bucket or bowl to clean the aquarium, not the ones that were used for cleaning floors. On the used items remain chemicals that are part of the soap or household chemicals. They are detrimental to the life of the fish. Make sure your hands are clean and free from soap or lotion. Do not forget to turn off the filter and disconnect it from the aquarium, turn off other electrical devices before the cleaning process.

Cleaning steps

  1. Wash tank walls

    You can not use any detergent in order to wash the walls of the aquarium. Even cleaning in this way the outer side of it is detrimental to the health of the fish. Traces of soil and algae can be cleaned with a special scraper, which easily cleans impurities. If it does not work with a scraper, try a blade. The outer part of the wall, including the cover, can be cleaned with a sponge or cloth moistened with water. There are special solutions for washing aquariums that are safe for pets. They are sold in pet stores.

    See how to clean aquarium glass from overgrown dirt and algae.

  2. Siphon water part

    You should leave some of the water in the aquarium, which is also useful to the fish. Sudden changes in water conditions at once are too harmful. You can use the type of siphon that you have. Follow the instructions included with the instrument to achieve optimum results.

    Drain the water in a bucket, bowl or sink with a siphon with a hose.

    * Be careful when pumping water from the tank. Be careful that the fish, plants and the ground do not disappear along with the dirt.

  3. Sorting decorations, sand or gravel at the bottom of the tank

    The material lining the bottom of your tank should be cleaned so that any food, garbage and other waste can be removed. Instead of removing this material from the aquarium, washing it or replacing it, simply place a gravel vacuum on it. As long as it stays at the bottom of the tank, use a siphon to suction any material that should not be there.

  4. Cleaning plants, wooden decorations

    In most cases, you can clean all the accessories in the tank with an algae scraper, but if they are too dirty, it is best to take them out of the tank and wash them in a clean sink. Do not use soap or any other cleaner. In some cases, a solution of water and salt (for decoration) is used. Let the scenery dry before putting it back into the tank.

  5. Pour new water

Once you have done everything to clean the aquarium, you can pour clean water into it, or use a siphon hose to pump water from a bucket or bowl. Connect the heating and lighting.

Filter cleaning

What if you can't wash the filter while cleaning the rest of the aquarium? It is impossible to clean the filter with all the decorations and water at once, it can be to the detriment of all fish and plants due to a sharp change in the balance of the aquatic environment. Two or three times a month the filter can be disassembled independently and cleaned with a toothbrush. But properly clean the filter in this way, which is listed in the instructions for its use.

See how to clean the internal aquarium filter.

Keep the aquarium clean

In order to maintain the ability to see the fish through the glass, you should wash the tank about once every 1-2 weeks. So you can prevent the formation of large algae and organic matter, formed as a result of the vital activity of fish. Some algae and non-decaying organics are harvested with the help of the “orderlies” of the aquarium - catfish or snails. Of course, this will depend on the conditions of your aquarium and how much fish already lives in it.

How to clean the aquarium at home?

To become a decoration of your home or office, the aquarium must shine clean. And the fish in such an aquarium are better, they are more active, they get sick less and live longer. Keeping an artificial reservoir clean is not so difficult, but still there are some subtleties in this business that newcomers should be aware of. Consider the basic issues of cleaning the aquarium at home.

How often should this be done?

Planned cleaning of the aquarium with the replacement of part of the water is usually carried out once or twice a week, depending on its size, population density, the presence of vegetation.

In each case, the question of the frequency of cleaning and water changes should be decided on the basis of

  • the health of the fish,
  • aquarium test scores
  • and, of course, the appearance of the aquarium.
If the walls are tightened with a brown-green coating, a cloud of dirt rises from the bottom at the slightest movement of the fish, then it is time to clean up, even if everything is fine with the fish.

And, conversely, in a crystal-clear aquarium, concentrations of nitrogen compounds can go off-scale and, accordingly, fish suffer. And this is also a reason for urgent cleaning.

What does aquarium cleaning include?

The cleaning algorithm is usually the following:

  • we clean the walls from algal plaque;
  • if necessary, we clean the scenery: stones, grottoes;
  • if there are plants in the aquarium, we will weed and trim them;
  • ground siphon (this procedure is not always performed);
  • pour out of the aquarium of the water - this can be done during the siphon or on purpose;
  • if necessary, wash the filter equipment;
  • Pour clean water.
Before you start cleaning the aquarium, you must turn off all electrical equipment, except for external filters.

And now about everything in more detail.

Wall cleaning

Even in the most prosperous aquarium, an algal bloom forms on the walls, which makes the glass dull and untidy. Therefore, algae must be regularly removed. This can be done with:

  • scraper with a metal blade (it can be replaced with a stationery knife blade);
  • magnetic scraper;
  • economic washcloths.

First option - long handle scraper or, to a lesser extent, the stationery knife is convenient and well removes algae and other contaminants, but is not suitable for Plexiglas aquariums, since it can leave scratches on their walls.

Magnetic scraper indispensable for deep tanks, as well as aquariums, which are restricted from above, or plexiglas tanks. It does not scratch the walls (with the exception of those cases when a grain of sand or a small fragment of soil falls between its parts) and makes it possible not to put your hands in the water. Minus - it is difficult for them to clean the corners of the aquarium and the lower edge of the glass near the ground.

The economic washcloth option is the most economical, but it is not suitable for plexiglass and is the least convenient, since you have to get it everywhere with your hand.

The algal bloom taken off with a scraper or washcloth is not necessary to specifically catch and clean - that if you do not have time to eat fish, we will remove it when water is drained.

Cleaning the scenery

If you do not like the dark film of algae on the scenery, they can also be cleaned. This is done with a washcloth or a hard brush inside the aquarium or outside if you remove the jewelry. Detergents and cleaning products are not used.

In order for the algae on the walls and decorations to be less, you can get algae fish, they will help in the fight for cleanliness.

And if the algae grow too fast, they are brown in color or resemble tassels in shape, then the situation in the aquarium is not completely safe, and measures must be taken to combat these representatives of lower plants.

Vegetation processing

The task of this treatment is to remove the leaves damaged by fish and snails (as well as overgrown with algae), trim or remove too overgrown shoots. Plants should not block the light of each other and interfere with fish.

When weeding out bushes with roots, one must act carefully to raise less dregs.

In shrimp aquariums, especially with capricious species, and in general in nano aquariums, pruning and weeding should be carried out as rarely as possible and as carefully as possible so that the minimum amount of sludge and plant sap falls into the water.

Ground siphon and water drain

Having cleaned the walls of the aquarium and weeding underwater plantations, we usually lift a lot of mud and dirt into the water. Now this dirty water needs to be drained. This is done with a hose or aquarium siphon.

With the end of the hose or a siphon tube we drive near the bottom, starting from the most polluted places, and pour the dirty water into a bucket or basin (it’s better that they are white, then we can notice a shrimp or fish accidentally tightened in the water).

You can put the second end of the hose directly into the sewer hole, but this option is only possible for aquariums with large fish that do not exactly fall into the siphon or hose.

At one time, it usually changes from 15% to 50% of water, depending on the conditions of a particular aquarium. Matter

  • filter power
  • population density,
  • demanding of animals to clean water
  • the presence of live plants or phytofilter.

In order to find out how often and in what volume it is necessary to make replacements, it is best to use tests for nitrate - the content of this substance in the aquarium should not exceed 20-30 mg / l for undemanding fish and 5-10 mg / l for the fastidious and loving clean water. Such a concentration must be achieved with the help of substitutions.

No need to replace the water completely! This will no longer be cleaning, but restarting the aquarium. Such a procedure is carried out only in the most extreme cases, for example, after an epidemic. It is impossible to settle the fish in the aquarium immediately after the general cleaning. It will be necessary to give the system a few weeks to mature, as in the case of a new aquarium.

If necessary, during the routine cleaning, you can siphon the soil in order to remove excess organic contamination.

In aquariums with large fish and without live plants, it is recommended to do this at least weekly, but the more plants and the smaller the density of the fish population, the less often there is a need for this procedure.

Soil in herbalists and shrimp cooks, as a rule, do not siphon at all, so as not to damage the roots of plants, not to reduce the nutritional and biofiltration properties of the soil and not to injure small animals.

Filter cleaning

When cleaning the filter, it is important to remove mechanical impurities from it without damaging the colony of microorganisms that live in sponges or other porous fillers and participate in biofiltration.

Therefore, wash the filter filling gently, without excessive enthusiasm, using only the water drained from the aquarium. It is better, of course, to take relatively clean water without turbidity, and not the one that was leaked during the ground siphon.

Internal filters with sponges are washed every one to two weeks, depending on the rate of contamination (the fact that the filter is contaminated can be seen by weakening its jet). The sponges of internal filters having several compartments for different fillers and external canister prefilters are washed with approximately the same frequency.

The porous biofiltration material (ceramic rings, balls, etc.) is washed much less frequently, once every two or three months, if necessary, carrying out a partial replacement of this filler.

The rotary head of the filter can be washed with plain water without detergent, using a cotton swab.

Water pouring

Aquarium is poured over at least 24-hour water with the same temperature as the fusion. Water is poured with a hose, bucket or watering can, depending on the size of the aquarium. It is not poured on the ground, which can be washed with a stream, but on a saucer or, for example, a grotto.

After that, they turn on the filter and the rest of the equipment, check its operation and the health of the fish. After a while, when a small turbidity settles (and it almost inevitably arises), your aquarium will shine with purity.

Such a clean aquarium will please not only you, but also fish that will feel comfortable. And this is a guarantee of their health, longevity and lively, interesting behavior.

Tell me the name of the aquarium fish that cleans from the algae glass aquarium ???

No fish clean glass aquarium. There are fish that eat greens, formed on the glass in an unwashed aquarium, but this is not enough to bring the aquarium into the proper form. Glasses you need to clean yourself, not relying on fish.

Katyusha Dengina

The first fish is a magnetic scraper))) It helps against any contamination on glass. And even feed is not necessary)))
The 2nd fish is a sponge common))) Only change it every time to clean. He doesn't want to eat, he doesn't need any care)))
3rd fish - ancistrus ordinary, star-shaped and any other species. But he eats only green algae on glasses and makes beautiful patterns))) With a lack of food, he eats live plants. This is his main disadvantage. Even to old age ceases to try
4th fish - pterigoplicht. The description is also that of anza
5th fish - gyronoheylus. Almost the same as anz
6th fish - SAE
7th snail))) - ampulyaria. Also eats green algae, formed not on the walls.
All these inhabitants will help you, but they will not do the work for you.

How to clean the aquarium

Ybr ybrf

We start with cleaning the windows. The fact is that lower algae are always growing on the glasses and various microorganisms settle, thereby reducing visibility.
Under strong light and in brightly lit areas, green algae actively reproduce, they resemble green fluff on stones, leaves of plants and glasses. Brownish bloom on glass and leaves of plants indicates a lack of lighting and is caused by colonies of diatoms.
The easiest way to remove algae from the glasses is to use a special scraper. Scrapers are magnetic, such consist of two halves, one of which is placed in the water, and the second attracts it through the glass outside. As a result, you can calmly, without even wetting your hands, simply drive scrapers on the glass, while part of it in the aquarium will scrape the coating off the walls.
Another scraper is a sponge on a wooden handle. They are also comfortable enough to clean the glass, but it is not suitable for deep aquariums. But a plastic sponge can be cleaned with a sponge (a magnetic scraper can easily scratch the walls).
However, there are magnetic scrapers specifically for plastic glasses, but they are less common on the market. If there is no scraper at all, then you can either use a clean new sponge for dishes, or a razor blade (be careful, you can scratch even ordinary glass, not to mention organic), or use an old nylon stocking. Consider that all methods of removing algae with a sponge or stocking require great physical effort.
The scraper can only clean the glass of the aquarium, but what about the leaves of plants or stones, snags and other decorative elements?
The best thing is to clean the aquarium fish - they feed on organic matter that lives in the aquarium. Certain types of fish are able to clean the glass tank, stones, soil, grass and equipment. Such fish can be purchased at the pet store. Some of them are suitable for a large aquarium, others - for a small one. Here it should be noted that this fish is sometimes necessary to feed a special vegetable feed.
The most popular of the algae are the ancistrus. Even one antsistrus is capable of cleaning the aquarium about 50 liters to shine, the main thing is to keep it on a starvation diet. This is due to the fact that if antsistrusy get a lot of feed, they stop nibbling algae from the glasses, preferring to watch the “manna from heaven” at the feeder.
I think in this they can be understood - why is it necessary to scrub a thin film of algae on a glass all day long, if the food already falls on your head like that? The aquarium is also very well cleaned of algae and live-bears - especially guppies and mollienesia. Try not to feed them for a couple of days and they instantly pluck all the algal fouling, bringing the aquarium into a sparkling look!
But you should not rely on snails in such an important matter. They are often turned on for precisely this purpose, but in reality they eat algae unevenly and scarcely, simply leaving intricate patterns on the glass of the paths eaten in the algae.
The next step after cleaning the windows is to wash the filter. The most common internal filters filter material consists of a special waterproof foam rubber. The filter is turned off, gently pulled out (some filters have the option of disconnecting the filter compartment without shutting down) and rushes to the bathroom or to the kitchen for washing.
It is usually sufficient to simply rinse the sponge well under running warm water, then put it back into the filter and return it to the aquarium. But about once every two months, it is useful to completely disassemble the filter mechanism, remove the rotor from it and remove the accumulated mucus and dirt from it, and also clean the filter nozzle. It is very convenient to use for this an old unnecessary toothbrush.
The first two months, the soil in the aquarium can not be washed. But this is only if all the fish feed is eaten. To clean the aquarium in pet stores often sell special tools - something like a cylinder worn on the hose for cleaning

1. 3 days before the start, infuse tap water (for bleaching powder to evaporate)
2. you need to catch fish with a net or net and place it in a jar.
3. Then take out the water, rinse them and put them in jars with fish (so that the fish in the bank will not die)
4. wash filter
5. Take out all large things from the aquarium (shells, stones, pink decorations)
if there is a feeder, it is also necessary to rinse it thoroughly, since the sun's rays are now hot in the aquarium and it “blooms” (ie, brown wood is formed on the glass)
6.Color all the bulky water in the bath or sink
rinse the stones through a durshlak or a sieve. old or dirty sand or stones can be thrown away, then bought in the store are new and placed in an aquarium (but the store filler for the bottom should be washed)
7. As I rode on the walls of the aquarium there is dirt or "mold" it should be washed with soap (in the store all special tools are available for living organisms) with them it is also better to rinse, rinse the aquarium better with a hob or bar
8.Rinse the aquarium from the soap.
9.In a clean aquarium, place washed stones (soil or sand) with this large items.
10.If there is a shortening of water on the bottom, it is also necessary to fix.
11. Pour into the aquarium already clean water.
12. Place and turn on the compressor or filter.
13.If you poured into the jar where there is all this fish time:
a) -pure water, it is already worth pouring the whole bottle of water and fish into the aquarium
b) -dirty water from the aquarium, it is already necessary to substitute a net or a sieve pouring dirty water through a sieve or a net, it is necessary in a separate bowl or sink. that is, so that dirty water (from a dirty unwashed aquarium) does not get into a clean aquarium.
14.If you have filtered and defended the water, you should not wait 24 hours to place fish there (to say that when a fish spends a long time in the bank it can be blind because the bank is round!
15. After washing the aquarium, feed the fish.
