How to feed aquarium snail
Among lovers of home aquariums, freshwater ampullar are very popular. They not only decorate the living area with their exotic appearance, but also clean the walls of the artificial pond from excess algae. Feeding aquarium snails usually does not cause great difficulties, but it must be subject to special rules.
The question "opened a pet shop. Business is not going. What to do?" - 2 answers
You will need
- - seaweed;
- - vegetables (lettuce, spinach, carrots, cabbage);
- - food for fish;
- - for young stock: duckweed, lettuce, riccia, cyclops.
1. In nature, aquarium snails feed mainly on plant food, so algae with hard, large leaves should form the basis of your pet's diet. It does not make sense to keep delicate plants in an artificial pond with ampullaries - clams will quickly break them and destroy them. In search of food, snails can turn over all bottom soil and dig up small algae with roots.
2. If you settle an ampullary in a voluminous aquarium overgrown with algae, you don’t have to feed shellfish for a long time. They will clean the reservoir of excess plants. To preserve the biological balance in the aquarium, after cleaning it from excess vegetation, plant a Canadian elodeum. The emerald net of the leaves of these algae will please the eye for a long time - it is inedible for snails.
3. To preserve a portion of edible water vegetation, you can feed an ampullaria with vegetables: spinach, lettuce, fresh cucumber, carrots, cabbage. Products with hard fiber are recommended to be scalded with boiling water or boiled.
4. Aquarium snails are not vegetarians at all, they are actually omnivorous. Mollusks will be happy to eat food of animal origin, to collect the remnants of fish. These are the real attendants of the aquarium who digest all the rotting organics. Ampullaria especially respect moth (raspberry), meat and caviar. However, they will not be able to compete with the more nimble inhabitants of an artificial reservoir, so they will never be united.
5. In the digestive system of snails, there are many microorganisms that help them digest a very large amount of food. However, if you overfeed ampillary, the water will quickly become turbid from their waste products, even with a good filter. For each pet, choose a diet individually - the amount of food should not exceed the needs of the body. Checked fact: only those "orderlies" who you always underfeed a little will clean up the aquarium.
6. In the diet of young animals, you must enter the mashed fish food, duckweed, salad, riccia and cyclops, scalded in boiling water.
If you decide to start breeding aquarium snails, keep them in one place in an amount not less than 3-4 copies. Ampullaria are heterosexuals, and it is very easy to make a mistake in their gender.
Content and reproduction of ampoules in the aquarium
Ampulyaria (lat. Pomacea bridgesii) is a large and cute aquarium snail. This mollusk is easy to maintain and feed, it is incredibly prolific and performs a number of important functions in the home nursery. The natural habitat of ampulyarius is the freshwater Amazon River basin, but they managed to acclimatize in the USA and Southeast Asia.
They are rarely seen on land, most often they are under water. On the surface they are found only during breeding, when they lay eggs. Naturally, atmospheric oxygen, which they capture on the surface of a pond, is necessary for a full life. It also occurs in an aquarium — an ampullary pulls out the breathing tube, pumping portions of oxygen into itself. The respiratory system is unique - there are lungs on the left side of the body, and gills on the right side. Breathe can be liquefied with oxygenated water, or atmospheric.
Since their native place of residence is tropical regions, they are able to survive in places with high humidity and dryness, for them this is a common phenomenon. In the process of evolution, the leg muscles developed perfectly, and a protective film was formed on them, which closes the shell during a drought. So changeable weather conditions are not a problem for them.
They are found in various freshwater reservoirs, ranging from rivers, and ending with irrigation canals, ponds, lakes. Like many snails, ampulyaria live closer to moisture and water. However, there is a difference between them and other mollusks - these turned out to be heterosexual, and they are looking for a partner to reproduce offspring.
Such mollusks are most often yellow, but there are other varieties of color. There are white, brown, black ampouleries, even blue ones. All of these aquarium snails are unpretentious, and except for the color of the body and the shell are no different from each other.
When buying a snail, remember that it is large in size. You can buy a small snail of 2 cm in size, and it will grow up to 10 cm. If the owner feeds the pet well, it becomes even bigger, reaching almost gigantic sizes (as for a snail).
Aquarium ampoule can cohabit in the same house with other snails, without interfering with each other. He lives in captivity about 1-2 years, the snail is very prolific.
Conditions of detention
A snail of 40 liters in volume is enough for the maintenance of the snail ampoule, but for several snails a large nursery is needed; for each individual, 10 liters should be allocated for each individual. Rapidly multiply - you will be very surprised when you notice a huge amount of caviar. Before breeding ampoule, think about how caviar will settle down, and how many fry it will turn out.
Many aquarists buy a pair of snails so that they do not get bored. You have to get a large aquarium so that each ampulyary feels comfortable. If both fish and snails live in a water container, then count on a volume of at least 100 liters. Let better a lot of space than closely.
A yellow snail ampulyary is a peaceful creature that does not disturb other inhabitants of the reservoir. Someone spread rumors that they eat fish, but this is not true. Like most snails, ampouleries are scavengers, eating only dead fish while cleansing the water. Of course, the slow clam is hardly able to catch up with the fish, and grab it, which would be noticeable.
Another thing is when the fish can disturb the ampoule, cutting off their antennae, piercing the shell. If someone has torn off a part of the body, then it will quickly recover. The ability to regenerate - the best than awarded their nature. Ampularia restores all parts of the body, even the eyes.
Incompatible with Sumatran barbs, green tetradon, fighting clown, fakaka, large tsikhlovymi. Shrimps and crayfish also bring trouble to snails - they are able to pick out the snail's body from the shell and eat it.
See how catfish antsitrus is fighting with ampulyaria.
Mollusks tolerate parasites, however, compared with other snails, much more enduring. They transfer nematodes, and if a person eats a raw snail, it can become infected. Sources of infection are rodents (rats) from polluted rivers. In the home, this is rare, because at home the snail lives clean. Moreover, they do not come into contact with rodents in an aquarium.
When infecting fish with parasites, you need to be careful with the use of drugs - which is useful for fish, it is deadly for the mollusk, since aquarium species are biologically closer to parasites than to fish. When treating fish, temporarily remove the snails from the aquarium. Settle them in a glass jar of 5 liters or more, covering it with glass. Between the glass and the jar should be a hole for air access.
How to feed
For such snails fit any food. In addition to the proposed feed, they can eat what will be at the bottom of the nursery. They eat the food not eaten with small fish, not allowing water to spoil.
The best food - vegetables and tablets for catfish. Treats - zucchini, cucumbers, lettuce and pumpkin. All vegetables need to boil in water for a few minutes, then send them into the water. If they are not eaten within 24 hours, remove food debris so that the water does not dim.
They will happily eat live food - bloodworm and tubule, it is important that the food falls to the ground. If there are plants in the tank, then the snails will nibble them to avoid this, feed them abundantly with vegetables.
Also for ampulyarius, calcium is essential. If you have noticed the destruction of the shell, this is an alarming signal - there are not enough trace elements in the water. On the shell formed cracks in the soft and old water. Immediately refresh the water and add minerals to it. Holes in the shell are able to heal, but it is not always restored. If you find an empty shell, you should know - the aquarium snail could dry itself after death, because its body is completely composed of protein.
Breeding and breeding
Aquarium mollusks ampulyarii need pair reproduction, for breeding, male and female are needed. In order for a pair to form, you should acquire several pairs of snails at once, which themselves will begin to multiply, without additional stimulation. It's easy to notice - they merge into one.
See how ampulyariae multiply.
Caviar is deposited on the water surface by the female. Caviar pale color and large. All caviar should be on the surface of the water, the child will die when immersed. Eggs are calcined due to the atmospheric air, as a result the fry are in a safe place. Breeding can lead to a huge number of offspring, some kids give, others sell.
A few weeks later, small aquarium snails are born, provided the optimum level of humidity and temperature is 20-27 degrees. Fry noticeable, with a large body, are fully formed individuals, and do not require additional care.
It is important to know!
Reproduction and laying of caviar are regulated. The female of the snail independently searches for and selects a place for laying eggs, feeling the air temperature and humidity. So in the future there will be no need to "evict" eggs to another place. Another thing is if the female placed her near the backlight - strong heat will destroy the fry. Carefully remove the caviar and place it on a floating object (can lid, plate).
All the eggs are soft, elastic, 2 mm in size. Mason easily glued to the glass in the form of grapes. A day later, the eggs are not milky white, and yellowish. Over time, the color darkens. Unfortunately, in the general aquarium, many snails die, so you need a separate container to save the offspring.
Aquarium snails ampouleria: maintenance and care, breeding
These cute colorful snails are very popular all over the world. Ampularia in the aquarium have become habitual inhabitants of the Russian lovers of the "water kingdom". This mollusk arrived in our region from South America (Amazon basin). In addition, this species is common in many tropical countries.
Ampularia, the maintenance and care of which is extremely simple, appeared in Europe recently. This happened at the beginning of the 20th century. Nevertheless, they quickly gained popularity among aquarists. This is due to the large size, bright beautiful colors and the simplicity of the content of such snails.
The aquarium snail ampoule, a photo of which today can be seen in all publications for lovers of aquatic inhabitants, is quite widespread in nature. In some areas, people even have to struggle with the growth of its population, since an excessive number of such mollusks damages the wetland ecosystem. These snails displace other gastropods from their habitat. And since ampulyarias are omnivorous, they represent a danger to crops, in particular to rice. For example, in the EU countries there is a ban on their import and distribution.
This type of mollusks is distinguished by a huge variety of shell colors. Many representatives have a yellow color, however, other, most diverse colors are common. Among them:
- blue (blue);
- brown individuals.
We will present you the most common ones.
This is perhaps the most common form of this mollusk today. Ampulyaria, the breeding of which is often practiced by aquarists, has more than a hundred species. With the maintenance of snails of different colors in one aquarium, you can create a beautiful variegated picture. But it must be remembered that in order for yellow snails to breed normally, there should be no more than one individual per 10 liters of water.
Ampulyaria yellow perfectly survives in the usual aquarium with fish. It is compatible with various types of fish, but it must be borne in mind that some of them can pinch clams for mustache. This, above all, applies to fish that feed on these cute creatures. Therefore, it will be safer to keep these snails with non-aggressive fish.
Among the brightest representatives of this type of mollusks, blue ampouleries are particularly prominent. The gray-blue shell and darker body look not boring at all against the background of yellow, marble, purple or pink snails. Such an individual has its own exotic charm and the grace of an unusual creature, as if coming to us from another planet.
In nature, ampulyaria feeds mainly on plant-based feed, and in aquariums, blue snails prefer proteinaceous - bloodworms, scraped meat, tubule, and dry food for aquarium fish. From vegetable components with pleasure consume lettuce leaves. Periodically, you can add to the diet semolina, scalded with boiling water. If you feed a blue ampulyary only with vegetable food, it will become barren.
These snails often grow quite impressive - up to 9 cm. There are even real giants, whose size significantly exceeds the specified value.
Their lifespan depends on the quality of care (mainly for food) and the temperature of the water in the aquarium. At relatively low values (18–20 ° C), the cochlea can live for 2–3 years, but it will become sedentary due to its slow metabolism. At 25-28 ° С, the snail will live only a year or a year and a half, but with it it will grow quickly, multiply intensively, will be distinguished by high activity.
Snails ampouleria: maintenance and care
Despite the fact that this type of mollusks gets along well with fish, it is better to keep them in a separate aquarium. The fact is that not only some species of fish, but also other animals, for example, red-eared turtles, eat even adult snails, not to mention caviar and offspring.
Snails ampouleries, maintenance and care of which are quite simple, can live in a not very large aquarium (30 liters), but this is on condition that you have one pet. But since the ampulyaries do not contain one by one, 3-4 individuals will need a more spacious capacity - one hundred liters.
It is necessary to know the owners, who already live ampoules: their reproduction should be under their control. Otherwise, a myriad of mollusks will soon appear in the aquarium. In addition, care should be taken to ensure that dead snails do not remain in the water.
You need to cover the aquarium with a lid, because if your pets do not like something in their new home, they will come out and go for a walk. In such a situation, it is necessary to find out what triggered their escape, and eliminate the inconveniences.
Periodically, the ampoule comes out to breathe air, therefore, between the cover of the aquarium and the surface of the water must be left free space. It is very interesting to watch the tricks of the colorful beauties. They look very funny, especially when there are several individuals in an aquarium. Initially, the snail picks up the air, floats, then exhales, and with the noise falls to the bottom.
Often, newcomers, having seen such tricks for the first time, are terrified and frightened, believing that the unfortunate creatures breathed their last and fell dead to the bottom. This is not so, just the "stags" breathed the air and went to rest.
Experienced aquarists know how undemanding to water ampoules. Maintenance and care, as well as their breeding are possible in much worse conditions than other aquatic inhabitants require. The owner of the aquarium is quite enough to follow simple rules for replacing water and filtering it.
Particular attention should be paid to the snail shell. That it not only did not collapse, but also was updated, calcium is necessary. If the aquarium is too soft water, then add limestone, sea shells, fine marble to it. It is even easier to compensate for the lack of calcium by purchasing a drug at a pet store that increases water hardness.
Despite the fact that ampulyariya, the photo that you can see in this article, is an unpretentious being, it is necessary to follow certain rules of feeding. This is important for the normal development of the mollusk, its active reproduction. In addition, the quality of the feed is directly related to the duration of its life. So how to feed an ampoule? These representatives of gastropods with the same appetite eat almost any food. Ampulyaria are remarkable in that they eat up leftover food after their neighbors.
Despite the fact that in natural conditions snails prefer plant food, they are recommended to diversify their diet in captivity.Ampularia will never give up food of animal origin:
Still, the main food of the snail should be vegetables and greens:
- leaves of cabbage and lettuce;
Before feeding, vegetables should be boiled slightly, and the herbs - scalded with boiling water. Leftover vegetables do not forget to timely remove from the tank so that the water does not deteriorate. The above-listed products diet is not limited to an ampoule. They are happy to enjoy granulated feed, boiled yolk, white bread, duckweed, bananas. Meanwhile, do not let your pets eat everything. It is necessary to observe vitamin and mineral balance in feeding.
Only an experienced specialist can distinguish a male from a female even in a sexually mature ampulyary. The breeding of these snails usually occurs when 4-5 individuals live in the same aquarium. In such a company there are usually necessarily opposite-sex snails.
When the female creates a clutch, her calf is almost white, with a slight yellow tinge. Then the eggs become harder and become off-white. Most often, the female lays her caviar before sunrise, where the place was well heated by the backlight. Because of this, often when the owner turns on the backlight lamps in the morning, the clutch may die from the heat.
If you want to save eggs and wait for the offspring, the eggs should immediately be cut from the glass and laid on a piece of foam or algae.
It is possible to breed snails of this species, as well as aquarian small fishes. They reach sexual maturity by 15 months. To breed ampulyarii, you must prepare the aquarium, creating in it 10-15 centimeters air gap. To do this, it is necessary to drain part of the water and cover the container with glass. Water temperature - + 26 - 28 degrees.
Ampoule females lay their eggs in the form of a bunch on the wall of the aquarium or on the glass to be coated. It matures 7–15 days, and the process of procreation takes 5 days.
It is very important to protect the eggs from drying out, as with the lack of moisture the clutch dies. After two weeks, a young emerges from it, which moves to the aquarium water. Newborn snails should be heavily fed. Initially, they are given soaked and pounded dry food for fish, gammarus, daphnia, boiled yolk, shriveled meat (beef). Then they are gradually transferred to adult food, and when the kids grow up to 5 mm, they can be seated in other aquariums.
These are the funny creatures of snail ampoules. Keeping and caring for them does not constitute a lot of work, and with their presence they diversify your aquarium and will bring a lot of pleasure to watch them.
Ampularia - aquarium snail.
There are no problems with feeding an ampoule, they are actually omnivorous. In nature, they apparently feed mainly on plant food, while in an aquarium they sometimes prefer food of animal origin, along with aquarium fish. But despite the fact that they are very nimble snails, they cannot compete with the fish while feeding and in the general aquarium they may well be constantly hungry. Therefore, to keep these snails in an aquarium with expensive or valuable plants is not worth it. First of all, they can destroy young plants with delicate leaves. And given the weight of the snail, sometimes they just break. In search of food often turn the ground, while digging up small plants.
Therefore, it is better to keep these interesting mollusks in several pieces, in large, tropical aquariums of a general type, with large plants. In common aquariums, it is advisable to feed them additionally with vegetable food that the fish do not eat. In this capacity, you can use lettuce, carrot, cabbage, cucumber (naturally not pickled). Rough food, which is hard to cope with, you need to pre-scald with boiling water. Occasionally, in order not to spoil the water, you can give a little white bread. In this case, they will be fed and will not seek to spoil the plants.
Taking into account that these snails are sectarian, and it is difficult to determine the floor, their number in the aquarium should be at least three, if it is intended to produce offspring. There they will maintain cleanliness by destroying algae from glasses and plants and the remains of fish feed.
In general, these mollusks are very unpretentious. The composition of the water for them is not very significant, but it should not be too soft. In soft water in adults, the ampulyary collapses the shell. On the surface of the shell are formed indentations, resembling ulcers. True, the behavior of snails, I, it does not affect. The temperature can vary from 15 to 33 ° C, but the optimum, all the same above 20 ° C, so they are suitable for large tropical aquariums.
If you keep an ampoule at low temperatures, they become lethargic. Move slowly, do not multiply. Although at low temperatures can live up to 3-4 years. At high temperatures, the life of the ampoule is reduced to 1-2 years, due to the acceleration of metabolic processes. But to watch them, in this case, is much more interesting. They lead an active lifestyle, often breed.
All ampouleries are different-sex, only they themselves can distinguish their gender. If you want to breed these snails, it is better to buy 3-4 pieces, so that is already certain. If you unwittingly witnessed a female ampoule laying eggs, remember it, or mark it in any way. Just do not try to look under the snail "tail", there you will not see anything interesting. In general, a female ampoule lays eggs on the surface, just above the water level.
As a rule, females lay their eggs in the evening. Place under the clutch of future offspring is selected taking into account humidity and temperature. It is better not to move the eggs without good reason. An exception can be considered if the caviar was put off near the lighting lamps at night. If you miss this moment, the eggs near the lamp will be fried. In this case, while the roe is not hardened, it is better to remove it carefully and place on a floating object.
As a "surfboard" can be a foam plastic, a small plate or a plastic lid from a glass jar. It is funny to look at the female when she is going to put off caviar. The female ampulyaria crawls out of the water and begins to scour the surrounding space. Thus, the snail selects a place for future laying. It should be noted that the snail is quite strong because of its rather big size. If there is an ogre glass cover glass on your tank, then there is a chance that the snail will be able to lift it.
Over time, the snail caviar begins to ripen and change its color to darker, and before the birth of small snails it becomes generally dark. Caviar usually ripens within 2-4 weeks. Often, in the general aquarium the youth ampoule dies.
Ampulyaria is a representative of a freshwater snail species. The most popular inhabitant of all aquariums.
It looks very unusual, it is not only aesthetically beautiful, decorative function, but also useful. They clean the aquarium wall from algae. But they begin to act as cleaners and cleaners, ampulyaria only when the usual food in the aquarium is not enough.
The ampoule shell is curled, has a light ocher color with dark brown stripes, but the color can vary from light to dark tones.
The back of the leg has a special horn cover. The lid serves as a kind of door through which it is drawn into the cavity of the sink. The eyes of this golden-colored snail, there are also tentacles that act as organs of touch. The sense of smell is incredibly strong, and it helps to pinpoint the location of food. It also has a proboscis, which is able to stretch vertically upwards in order to inhale oxygen from the surface of the aquarium.
Ampoulea nutrition method
Ampulyaria is absolutely omnivorous, if it lives in its natural environment, it takes plants to eat, if it lives in an aquarium, it easily feeds on bloodworms and meat. Starting an ampoule in an artificial reservoir in which there are especially rare algae or other plants of value is a big mistake. She will surely eat everything and without residue. You can put a snail in an aquarium overgrown with algae, at the bottom of which there are remnants of food.
ampulyaria photoFrom 1.01.2013 in the European Union, a ban on the import and distribution of ampullaria.
With extraordinary speed, it cleans the entire area provided, the water is much cleaner in containers with ampouleries. However, there are algae with which this snail lives in complete harmony, without eating them. These algae are called Elodea Canadian, their ampulyary categorically refuses to eat.
In the aquarium, the snail can be fed with lettuce leaves and semolina, after having doused it with boiling water. Instead of a jaw, she has a radala, in other words, a grater. This grater she literally scrapes food. Only part of this species can bite off a whole sheet.
Snails ampulyariya peaceful and calm inhabitants of the aquarium. Their behavior does not disturb the neighbors, but, alas, it is not mutual. Many aquarium fish can tweak snails and even tear off their antennae. Larger fish — the fahak, the green tetradon, and the large cichlids — will purposefully attack the snail, seeing food in it. Usually they eat the young, but large individuals, too, do not be good. Fish will nibble them all the time.
If shrimps and crayfish live in your tank, snails will have to be abandoned. With great delight, these aquarium dwellers gobble up ampulyaria, skillfully picking out a snail from the shell.
It is worth knowing that if necessary, treatment of the aquarium snails need to be transplanted, as they do not tolerate many drugs. No matter how many snails live in an aquarium, they should not be left in case of use:
- formaldehydes and pesticides, which are used to exterminate parasites;
- copper-containing drugs used to treat fungal infections;
- malachite green (for the treatment of ichthyophthiriasis and fungal diseases).
By the way, if the snail has surfaced, it does not mean that she died. Do not be afraid of this behavior. Maybe she just breathes. It is possible to determine whether the ampoule is alive, just as in the case of any other snail - to smell. If the smell is unpleasant, the clam is dead and must be removed from the aquarium immediately.
The benefits of ampulyaria
It has already been mentioned above that multi-colored and undoubtedly cute creatures are an excellent decoration of an aquarium. They will help create a unique interior in your underwater garden.
Like other snails, ampulyarias are wonderful aquarium attendants. They do an excellent job with the coating on the walls and the film on the surface of the water. It collects the food left after feeding, no matter how much it is left, not allowing it to rot and pollute the soil and water. Snails in an aquarium are already somewhat classic.
And ampulyaria, perhaps, have become one of the most worthy representatives. It is interesting to watch them, and a variety of colors is pleasing to the eye. Efforts to maintain ampoules are minimal, and you do not have to do much, and the results fully justify the expectations.

What to feed snails: food for ampoules
Those who have ampoules in the aquarium know that these creatures are not averse to profit from algae. But what, to feed the snails, so that they do not bring harm to the plants?
Many believe that ampulyarii can eat everything. In nature, they mainly feed on vegetation, but in the aquarium they can eat live food, which includes bloodworms and tubers. The use of various wastes, such as fish scales, decaying plants, etc., is not excluded. Additionally, you can give these creatures scalded lettuce leaves, pelleted feed, carrots, duckweed, and the like. If plants are used as food for ampoules, then it is necessary to dispose of non-eaten residues in time, before decomposition.
The lack of calcium in mollusks leads to the destruction of their shell, so you need to organize ampulyariy varied and fortified food. There are special tools for fish that have calcium in their composition. You can cook the food yourself, for which you need to grind the egg shells on a coffee grinder, then roll it into balls from a flour bun.
It is best to start in a small aquarium no more than three individuals. At the same time, newcomers should be treated with concern, since they may have favorite plants that mollusks would like to eat. Although, it is worth noting that not all ampulyariae eat algae, and some eat only decaying leaves. Such snails, even if they die of hunger, will not harm underwater plants.
It is worth noting that if the ampulyarias do not have enough food, they will gradually destroy all the vegetation in the aquarium. But to prevent this from happening, how to feed snails ampoule? And in the quality of food can fit almost everything that was listed above. It is worth noting that as food, these snails can use not eaten feed for fish.
An important role is played by feeding in the breeding process. So, if the food is not enough, the period between the laying of the female can last long enough. Therefore, everyone who is interested in increasing the population should provide good nutrition, as well as the right environmental conditions.
What do snails eat in an aquarium?
In our time, man brought out a large number of varieties of fish, snails, all kinds of mollusks and other living creatures that inhabit the aquarium. Ampulyaria is one of the most popular types of snails that are aquarium inhabitants in our time. But many lovers of aquatic living creatures have the first and main question - what is to feed these snails?
Most of the snails (including ampullaries) are unpretentious in eating and eat almost everything that their small organism can swallow and digest.
That's about this ration adheres to most of the holders of this type of snail: vegetables - cucumbers, spinach, carrots and lettuce, fish food, dead fish, snails and their caviar.
But there are some types of snails, which need a special approach in terms of food. Pomacea bridgesi can be attributed to such snails, - and do they eat such snails in an aquarium?
This type of snail is able to digest only very soft food, so the best option for feeding them is a tableted feed for fish, boiled vegetables, as well as canned spinach.
But you should always be alert, because the quality of the water in which these snails live can deteriorate from such food.
In simple terms, giving these snails needs food no more than they do. You do not need to be afraid that the snail will be overfed, but you also don’t need to bring the fact that food remains will rot at the bottom of the aquarium.
But there is a type of snail that feeds on the same food as the fish that inhabit the aquarium. In principle, these snails, which are called acrolucks, appear in an aquarium only if the aquarium is full of food that the fish do not have time to eat.
In general, the answer to the question of what snails eat in an aquarium is very simple, because most snails are so unpretentious in terms of food, living things that they can even eat with bloom, which covers the walls of the aquarium, stones and algae that are in it.
Of course, in the natural world there are such species that are very difficult to adapt to the conditions surrounding them, but they are, as a rule, artificially created by man sorts of living creatures (in particular, snails). Such snails live in an aquarium as just a beautiful object, but caring for them can be much more difficult than caring for the fish itself, so before you get these or other snails, you need to know as much as possible about their life in aquarium conditions.
What to feed aquarium snails?
First I would like to answer the answers of some eccentrics:
1) they do not need to be fed they will eat dirt - who told you this, you will eat dirt yourself.
2) You should not feed them, they are not desirable guests of the aquarium - only small snails (coils) do not need feeding.
it’s just not desirable to keep them in an aquarium and it’s very difficult to get rid of them.
If you keep an ampoule in an aquarium (these snails should be kept in an aquarium) for which it is sometimes more interesting to watch than for fish, then they definitely need to be fed.
Feed for ampoules is:
Boiled cabbage, scalded nettles (if dried, then cook for 2-3 minutes). Add small amounts to aquariums so that snails eat in 1 day (by the way, many fish eat nettle and cabbage as well).
Sometimes you can add non-boiled thin noodles (not fast cooking) also in a small amount of 1-2 sticks 4-5 cm.
And of course, you can feed with special feeds for catfish suckers on a plant-based basis (in the form of tablets), but such food is expensive.
Naturally do not need to lay cabbage. nettle or noodles to the fore, better somewhere to the background for the scenery or at night.
Be sure to consider the amount of feed !!!
There is nothing difficult in the process of feeding.Snails eat grass. Various plants can be planted in an aquarium and added as they disappear. If lucky, the plants will multiply. Also snails will not give up algae. In this case, most snails do not need to be fed. There is such a look - ampulyarias, so it is advisable to feed them always.
Snails have a varied diet. True, they cannot take it away from fish. But the dead copies easily gnawed. Also snails are fed with daphnia, bloodworms. If the meat is crushed to the level of the powder, then this food will be eaten. You can also give melkorerezany salad. Snails can also eat bread crumbs, but it is undesirable to give them contrary to the general opinion. Firstly, it is difficult for them to grasp this food, secondly it is rough and not always eaten.
someone from another planet ...
nothing ... they mostly feed on what they find in the aquarium ... I keep aquariums for more than 15 years ... the only exception is that during my feeding I always got up to the surface and fed them with tweezers)))
although there are predatory snails, the name of which I will not give for obvious reasons ... this species of snails dies in an aquarium if there are no ordinary snails that they usually eat
